Gonna Get Over You Lyrics

Goodbye
Should be sayin' that to you by now, shouldn't I?
Layin' down the law that I live by
Oh, maybe next time

I've got a thick tongue
Brimming with the words that go unsung
I simmer, then I burn for someone
The wrong one

I tell myself to let the story end, oh
My heart will rest in someone else's hand
My why-not-me philosophy began
And I say

[Chorus]
Oh, how am I gonna get over you?
I'll be alright, just not tonight
Someday, hey oh, I wish you'd want me to stay
I'll be alright, just not tonight
Someday

"Maybe" it's a vicious little word that can slay me
Keep me when I'm hurting and make me
Hang from your hands

Well, no more (no more)
I won't beg to buy a shot at your back door
If I'm aching at the thought of you - what for? (what for?)
It's not me anymore

And I'm not the girl that I intend to be
I dare you, darling, just you wait and see
But this time not for you but just for me
And I say

[Chorus]

Say it's comin' soon,
Someday without you
All I can do, is get me past the ghost of you
Wave goodbye to me
I won't say I'm sorry
I'll be alright, once I find the other side of
Someday
Oh, oh
Whoa, oh
Oh
Oh, oh
Whoa, oh
Whoa, oh
Whoa, oh

[Chorus]

This song has such amazing lyrics. Sara is such a poet.

This line is amazing: And I'm not the girl that I intend to be I dare you darling, just you wait and see But this time not for you but just for me

To me, it's "I take my part in why this relationship failed. You always wanted me to change, now I will, but I'm living life for me."

To me, the whole song is really empowering, but honest. They broke up, and she knows she'll be fine eventually, but she misses him all at the same time.

Awesome song! I think it's about getting over the ex that you just can't get over. You wish they wanted you the way that you wanted them but you know it won't happen. So eventually you will move on.

This song just rocks. I am over someone right now, but I think this is a lot of what she was thinking and it is JUST PERFECT song of getting over someone.

Sometimes things don't work out. Things will hopefully work out with someone else and it will be better than what you lost and were sad about.

perfect line "My heart will rest in someone else's hand"

Sometimes things don't work out because of timing. Like the situation I'm in now. We aren't dating, we work together and became fast friends that started really liking each other. But we couldn't be anything more because the both of us are in very different stages of life. Hes just got a great opportunity to move away. I fell for him very quick, we have this great connection, but we are friends with benefits who care for each other but there's not that pressure of when your in a relationship and you have to text each other and see each other all the time (its impossible to do that in the work we do). I just wait patiently for when I'll next see him. But this song helps me when I start to feel like the loose cannon who has all the feelings and will be hurt in the end once its all over. I know hes going to walk away without feeling a thing. But for me, I've never felt so comfortable with anyone. We can laugh about nothing for hours and we have the spot on sense of humor. Its a shame life is all about timing. i always wonder what if the timing was good, and we were at the same stages of life.

This song is about putting your foot down and walking away from something that isn't giving anything back. In this case, it looks like the guy is telling Sara goodbye in the first stanza, but by the second stanza Sara is describing her their relationship. They aren't together, they are betwixt and between. Hence, "'Maybe,' it's a vicious little word that can slay me." and "Well no more, I won't beg to buy a shot at your back door." Sara is describing that she's just a last resort option for the guy who is playing the field. And while Sara is giving him everything, she has decided it's time to walk away from being an option. And while she wishes that he'd want her with the same intensity that she does, she accepts that he won't ever and that she'll be fine without him.
