love, love, LOVE this song. "it was poverty that kept you sweet and dreams that kept you young." perfect line.
I could be wrong, but I feel like this could be about Jenny's childhood. About growing up poor, looking out for herself and knowing who she was. "you used to dine out on a dollar, with a switchblade in your coat, you had your young mind in the gutter, and your feet on the ground.'
Fame and money have come and now she's remembering what used to be. That's just my take on it. Either way, beautiful song.

Could still obviously be about Jenny since they know each other sooooo well. Also, the lyric back then that is now "The money started rolling in, you stopped having any fun" was: "and now you're rich on texas steam, you're not having any fun"
(Texas steam may have something to do with railroads or trains or i might just have heard it totally wrong.)
I thought that line might be where they got the title from, but after reading a lot of interviews I realized the title came from a bumper sticker that said "I'm having fun now" on the back of one of their newly purchased station wagons. (They have a few vintage station wagons, so cute!)
