Raven (Angel)

stark above the ribbon road
on a naked branch of oak
staring daughter of midnight charades
steaming shadows all around her,
weaving in & out & down
her saddened laughter, winged shoulder blades
moonlight caress soft white face
lifted to the painted sky
save your fears for another day
stretching out a shaking hand,
wretched; can you understand
i want to take your tears
& wipe them all away
i want to stand by you-
want to feel you holding on to me
oh, how i wish i wasn't falling for you
but i cannot shake away this need
dark upon the bloody road
naked but for tattered clothes
tired of running from the same old shades
screaming shadows dance around her,
weaving in & out & down
their maddened laughter endlessly cascades
velvet blackness, slaps & scratches,
crying to the tainted sky;
the power of memories begins to fade
stretching out my own burnt hand,
want to get you out of this quicksand
it's hurting you, it'll kill you if you stay
i want to stand by you-
want to feel you holding on to me
i keep dreaming that i'll wake up
