Where Did Jesus Go? Lyrics
I have a tale to tell about a girl whose soul was screwed
She was born into a life with everything to lose
Her father sold her to the trade when she was just a child
She was seventeen and never ever learned to smile
She took a bullet and she blew out her brains
She didn't say goodbye, she just went away
And now who's missing her? I wish she was here
Her name was Angel and she'd had a bad year
So you wanna call me the devil's advocate
When you don't know the half of it?
'Cause I was raised to believe in miracles
My life is so cold
Where did Jesus go? Where did Jesus go?
Where did Jesus go? He disappeared
Where did Jesus go? Where did Jesus go?
Where did Jesus go? He disappeared
What's the point of screaming out if no one gives a damn?
What's the point of reaching out if no one lends a hand?
She had passed the point where there was nothing left to give?
She was seventeen and never ever learned to live
So you wanna call me the devil's advocate
When you don't know the half of it?
'Cause I was raised to believe in miracles
My life is so cold
Where did Jesus go? Where did Jesus go?
Where did Jesus go? He disappeared
Where did Jesus go? Where did Jesus go?
Where did Jesus go? He disappeared
She needed an angel to love
And no one sent her an angel
She needed an angel to love her
But no one sent her an angel
But you wanna call me the devil's advocate
But you don't know the half of it?
I hate I was raised to believe in miracles
'Cause life is so cold
And you wanna call me the devil's advocate
But you don't know the half of it?
I hate I was raised to believe in miracles
'Cause life is so cold
And where did Jesus go? Where did Jesus go?
Where did Jesus go? He disappeared
Where did Jesus go? Where did Jesus go?
Where did Jesus go? He disappeared
She was born into a life with everything to lose
Her father sold her to the trade when she was just a child

I love this song... I think it's about her... "her father sold her to the trade when she was just a child" She was a child actor. That's what I thought of anyways :] x
hhhmmmm this is a hard one well this is my opinion i could be wrong i think this song is about a girl who was abused in some way by her dad or in family in general and that the abuse was so bad she started to call out for help mentally like when some people go in such turmoil in families, job, deep emotional pain ect they start asking for gods help or in this case jesus because the girl is abused badly she starts asking for an angel, jesus or possibly god but because there's no response or hep from them the abuse gets so bad she decides cause she ins't getting any help and the abuse is that bad and she felt not wanted she decided to commit suicide and thats why i think where did jesus go? as a metaphorical question saying where was he when he could of helped her but he didn't, the devils advocate quote is hard to explain with it meaning worst side just for an argument maybe she's meaning that people believed what was happening to the girl that commited suicide but just chose not to believe it and argued that it was a lie for the sake of it, sorry i'm probably wrong but this is such a difficult lyrics to understand has anyone got a better opinion???????
or maybe if it's about taylor's life in general she could be saying everybody doesn't believe her and they are so ignorant and calls her a devils advocate so the girl or taylor if this is about her truns and says so you call me the devils advocate but you don't know the half of it any opinions??????????
I'm pretty sure the "trade" is prostitution or something of the like for drugs.
I am pretty sure it is a layered song. Yeah, it is obviously about a girl who was abused/prostituted, but I would say that the original verses were originally written about her, then later developed into the song as is.
The way I see it, I think the song is about her. It could all be very metaphorical. "Her father sold her to the trade when she was just a child She was seventeen and never ever learned to smile" - this could be about how she went into the entertainment business when she was very young and how every time she smiled it was purely for the press and to keep a good reputation, and never really smiled honestly. The whole suicide thing could be about her turning to "the dark side" and changing her image. "Her name was Angel" - she was the perfect girl, she was keeping her "good girl" image. "She needed an angel to love And no one sent her an angel She needed an angel to love her But no one sent her an angel" - everybody started liking her because she became famous, and not for who she is, and she started to see that nobody is honest with her and everybody is just trying to use her for something they want. And as for the "devil's advocate" - that's obvious here, people just start talking bad about people that have the kind of image and style she has. Of course there are people who like her like that, but I'm guessing that's about the people who turned on her as she changed, because they didn't approve of who she is becoming, and the "you don't know the half of it" is to all those people, how they have no idea what she's been through and why she is the way she is. At least that's how I see it, could be wrong, though.
I think this song is simply about the injustice in this world and there is no god no jesus to save us. people call taylor the devil's advocate while she simply points out that religion wont save you, believing in god does not make your life better, god if he ever existed abonded us a long time ago. That is what the author means by this I think.
