Wasted Hours

Kids/teens often dream about the day when they’ll finally be free. This album talks a lot about leaving home as well. However, in the end, you realize that you will always be stuck on that bus no matter what you do. You can take this negatively (life is pointless) or you can try to make a life that you can live.

this song describes my life right now, thats why it hits me. i'm wasting hours and the song is saying that even though it may not feel like it, the hours are important. it says that even though i don't know much about life or what i want yet, i can make something out of it.

I don't know what it is about this song, but it really chokes me up. Specially when the strings really kick in during the second verse. About wasted opportunities? Wishing you could have done something else with your life? Either way, amazing song from a quite brilliant album.

this song is special, a treat.

The sound at the begining (and ongoing throughout) reminds me of "In the Jungle) from The Lion King. "awimba wip awimba wip awimba wip awimba wip in the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight..." lol Cool song anyways. :)

This song got me the first listen through of the album. I had to rewind it multiple times to really listen to what was actually said, but also listen to such a great song.

I believe it's a man thinking about the life he had up to now, right before or after his divorce is finalized. He's thinking about the wasted hours he spent on her, but she will move on to another man quick.

I guess that's how I interpret the song. Everything is perfect in this song, especially the strings and organ.

Read the book "Cul-de-sac Syndrome" It really speaks to this song and this album in general. Bowling Alone to a lesser extent but this album really seems inspired by these societal trends. I pitty the person stuck in traffic on a 1 hour comute when this song comes on as their kids are playing soccer across town. Wasted hours contribute to a wasted life. Very inspiring song.

It's about all those times when you're a kid and a teenager, (possibly living in the suburbs, or maybe just in a suburban stage of your life where nothing much happens) and you wish you were free and could live the life you dream of. And then the singer grows up and realises they were wasted hours because he's still a kid on a bus longing to be free, and he's been asking the wrong questions all along.

This song and pretty much the whole album is amazing.

My friends and I have been talking about, complaining about "urban sprawl" for a long time. I don't know how many times we've asked the question "remember the forest that used to be there?", "remember that mountain that used to be there"... they're all Urban Sprawls and Shopping Malls now.

These guys have been one of my favorite bands for a long time, but this one is special. I love that they think like me, and probably a lot of people for that matter. What ever happend to people? We used to be people... now we've just accepted being a number.

I think it's pure genius how they use the same lyrics in different songs across the album, capturing the repetition of suburban life - the lines "first they built the road then they built the town, that's why we're still driving around and around" are in Month of May too.

I don't think these wasted hours are necessarily a negative thing...you only have to listen to The Suburbs (continued) to see that. It's just about enjoying yourself and making the most of what you've got, living in the moment.
