To me, that almost seems like a cryptic tribute to the Rev. After his death, the band kept saying that he had to die tragically young like that, because since he was a kid at heart, he wasn't meant to grow old and die any other way.

this song is most definitely about charles starkweather and caril anne fugate. they are often referred to as "natural born killers" and the movie natural born killers, directed by oliver stone is based off them. they were a couple who went on a killing spree, and when they were caught caril claimed that he was holding her hostage, which is why they are talking about "mangled stories" and what not. he got the death penalty and she got life in prison. charles even testified at her trail claiming she was a full participant. he was put to death by the electric on June 25, 1959 (aged 20), at the time of his execution she was 15 years old.

i am very familiar with this case, and this song meaning just really seems obvious to me.

Okay good, now let's talk about how awesome the song is haha

by now im pretty sure everyones established that the majority of the album is about the rev.. to me it sounds partly like an attack on the media and the way a life or death becomes nothing but a story and partly about how they are struggling to deal with the rev's death.. most people become a little crazy because of the intensity of emotions when someone passes and it seems that in hurt and anger they are lashing out at the media's coverage even tho they already know what the media is like, "it couldnt happen any other way"...

This is one of my favorite songs on the album..And of the album. I love the lyrics, and Matt's voice.
