The Good Book Lyrics
You were saved by the good book,
I was saved by the half full glass,
So come on take a good look,
'Cause this party will be our last.
And they've closed down the old bar,
This town's like an empty box,
Well they can't have gone that far,
'Cause I can still see some swingin' locks.
When falling feels like flying,
There's a dangerous hope,
'Cause the ground comes at you faster than you'd think,
Lurking in the shadows,
With the bears and wolves,
'Cause that's where you feel the most at home these days.
When you called I was screening,
It confused me to hear your voice,
It was like I was dreaming,
And the ten years became a noise,
I could barely remember,
Just enough to open the wounds,
In the darkest December,
I can howl at the early moon.
When falling feels like flying,
There's a dangerous hope,
'Cause the ground comes at you faster than you'd think.
Lurking in the shadows,
With the bears and wolves,
'Cause that's where you feel the most at home these days.

Maybe,
"Cause I can still see some swinging marks."
"And the ten years became a noise"
:)
Or swinging locks?
Cause the town is empty and the bar has been closed down.
Also I think it may be 'This parting will be your last' instead of party?
Such a great song :)
"Cause this party will be your last"
Cause this party will be OUR last - he doesn't know why he has been contacted by an ex love and the wounds were opened up. He doesn't want to go through the pain again.
I agree it should be "swinging locks"
Also don't know about:
When you called I was screening, It confused me that hear your voice, It was like I was dreaming, And ten years became a THIS NEEDS TO RHYME WITH VOICE - he has just heard from this ex love in ten years and that amount of time has been painful so he looks at it like an object. All of the healing of ten years is instantly starting to dissolve.
The last line should read:
It's where you feel the most at home these days
Nice work QS, great song.
It is 'swinging locks', as AA and Splack say.
Also agree with Splack's calls above, but I am pretty convinced that the last word in the four lines there is 'noise'.
'When you called I was screening, It confused me to hear your voice, It was like I was dreaming, And the ten years became a noise.'
I like that you can read the "half-full glass" as either alcoholism or a flicker of optimism, considering the rest of this song is pretty bleak. Can anybody shed some light on it? It's awfully, fantastically vague. I feel like it's two people, not necessarily a couple, being reunited after ten years and realising that everything they knew has sort of dissipated and closed down. They wish they could return to that, there's that 'dangerous hope', but they know that they're just going to crash and burn.
Also, I think "screening" should be "screaming".
"When you called I was screening"
could be, When you called I was dreaming.
screening places the narrative in a too narrow of a time frame. I like the timelessness of this...
