colors howl beneath my dreams
and all the words in my head turn to binary
you took my arms, and i'm scared i might not get them back
i wake up early and i drink the sun like coffee
i stare straight through all the ghosts that used to haunt me
i say, "hey, not today,"
today i'll just laugh
and all the places you know from when you were a kid
well they seem smaller and stranger than they ever did
and the people you used to come home to
are now just strangers you're not sure you ever knew
you were perfect in the winter, everything looks better hidden in the snow
we were in love with january and what we didn't know
but our mystery is melting with the springtime
and you were born to change your mind
so i'll take my place in the back of your brain
and eat at all your insides until you go insane
and in a couple of weeks, you'll be calling me again
i'd like to hear you say that you don't love me then
and the places we went to when we were both kids
they seem far less exciting than they ever did
i've been homesick for a place that i can't ever seem to find
until i do, i paint my own blue skies
