Release Me Lyrics

There's only
Powder in here
Bones are only parchment paper
Pills are just for easy trading
And the legs won't walk
'Cause the legs won't walk

The girl's got power
And the boy's got stamina;
And I don't know what side to choose
Choices don't care
To be chosen;
'Cause the legs won't walk
'Cause water is boiling hot

There is only
Powder in here
Bones are only parchment paper
Pills are just for easy trading
And the legs won't walk
'Cause the legs won't walk

The idea that this is about Oh Land's dancing career is very possible but I believe that the song is about a psychological disorder such as anorexia. Many victims of anorexia identify it as a human named "Ana". Many believe that "bones are pure" and that bones are what matters. The line "Bones are only parchment paper" may mean that once you get thin, you become weak like parchment paper and there is nothing beyond becoming weak. There is no reward at the end on the maze. Choices don't care to be chosen may be about people not caring about what's going on. The character feels as if they're being left behind. "The legs don't walk" may be about not being able to function as you normally do due to the lack of nutrition. "Water is boiling hot" means that it is almost too late. The whole song may be about someone realizing they have a problem and that they need help now.

I think this is also another song about her injury which made her give up her dancing career... like Break the Chain. This one is bit more depressing though. Still, a beautiful vocal performance!
