Is it just me, or does the drum intro sound exactly like the beginning of badlands?
Wow, now that you mention it, it sure does! But I think "Boyfriend"'s intro is about a measure longer, the music comes in a bit earlier in "Badlands".

Simple lyrics that are perfect. I'm not saying that Best Coast can compare to the greatness of The Beatles, but they do remind me of them. They have similar sound.

I thought it was about a woman being harassed by the State of Texas. Apparently, she dropped out of school, but the State indicated that she graduated and attended a variety of different programs. The No Child Left Behind Act falsified high school results stating that several individuals had graduated, when in reality they had dropped out altogether. It could be she wanted a man and the girlfriend manipulated her high school records to make it seem she had dropped out at 17. So the song is being sung by the guy's real girlfriend who is...

Pretty sure you're trying to look into this WAY too hard, glowe. Best Coast's lyrics aren't written to reference some obscure incident. They are straightforward and easy to understand, at most referencing an experience from the life of the song writer. A rather generic experience at that.

It's about a girl who is a guy's friend. She knows him really well and better than any other girl, but he just doesn't see her the same way. Even though they have the perfect base for a relationship, they don't have attraction.
