Exploding People Lyrics

Building up a belly full of bumble bees.
Pushing down the pain like it's a quarantine.
Baby, sing in choir 'til your tongue falls out,
cuz if you hold it all in it'll all fall out.
And one by one, the people, they explode.

The past aint ever gonna re-come.
So do what you do, cuz what's done is done.
Beat out the pain with a kick drum.
Can't escape from yourself unless you don't run.
And one by one, the people, they explode.

You never see the present, cuz you're always looking back.
Or counting down the seconds to your heart attack.
Bottle it up, and the bottle goes crack.
Do what you do, cuz you can't come back.
And one by one, the people, they explode.

This song is to people who obsess over the past, or who are always holding back. People who don't live today, but tomorrow or yesterday. It's encouraging the listener to actually live their lives, and treasure the gift we call life, because everyone dies ("one by one the people they explode").

A few lyric corrections.

Building up the belly for a bumblee. = Building up a belly full of bumblebees.

My baby's singing choir til your toe falls off? = My baby's singing choir until her tongue falls out (not too sure on this one myself.)

And escape from yourself unless you don't run. = Can't escape from yourself unless you don't run.

You are your own cure. = You are your own killer.

Doip. It should be "Can't escape from yourself because you don't run."

I love this song. The message seems to be both that staying in the past can only be detrimental, and that the majority of your healing/damage is done by yourself.

The lyrics "You never see the present 'cause you're always looking back... counting down the seconds to a heart attack" strike a particularly strong note for me. In the last 5 years of his life, my dad started drinking on top of prescription narcotics, driving him to be abusive... his considerable share of personal demons from his past didn't help any either. He started getting better, but he couldn't forgive himself for what he'd done despite us having already done so. He kept eating unhealthily and drinking on top of narcotics, and died of a heart attack at the age of 45. It's pretty shocking how close this song hits to home, and makes me cry frequently.

Anyways, sorry for the rant. Long story short, excellent song.
