Q&A

Grandfather Said Lyrics

Asked this leaf, as she fell from a tree
I said what do you think of dying?
And she said nothing back to me.
So I picked her up
(I picked her up)
Out of the dirt.

She said
no no no no this is all wrong.
She said
I belong in the forest not as a line
In one of your songs.
So I let go
(I let her go)
She fell to the earth.

I belong in the forest. (x3)

This old man said
do you fear death son?
I said
no no no, its just as natural as the setting sun.
And then he walked away
(He walked away.)
The sunset did die.

I belong in the forest. (x3)
In the forest. (x2)

All these true and false
Fill in the blanks
Have been Making
my eyes heavy
Have been making
My voice faint
Despite my tired eyes
Im staying up all night.

Sing sing sing, sing me a lullaby. (x2)
Sing sing sing, sing me a lullaby to sleep.

A lullaby.

Sing sing sing, sing me a lullaby.
(repeat)
I belong in the forest.
(repeat)

Sing sing sing sing me a lullaby to sleep.

this song means a lot to me, i think it has a lot to do with people and death but not in a sad way, exactly.. there's the leaf which wants to be close to family, who "belongs in the forest" and there's the old man who had no one but he still felt like there was somewhere he wanted to be to die. the next verse [that the girl sings] i think that's the confusion of death and what it is to her and she doesn't want to think about it at all, she just wants it to happen when it happens: "sing me a lullaby to sleep"
