I think it's "stayed out to rust"...
And I am not sure about the line "You just the saying 'never burnt but lit'". What is this supposed to mean - "you just the saying"? The strange grammatical form confuses me. Help!

@dassindgeschichten The song appears to be a lament to lost love. She left before she could get hurt. i.e.winter came, couldn't stand to sit. (she left him in winter) you just the same, never burnt but lit (she left before she got too close/hurt) Hints at both of them being afraid to commit.
