come fill another glass
i'm still under water
warm up your father's car
like the oldest daughter
i know what to say,
i know i'm spoken for
come fill another glass
we're still under water
turn up the static now
weather's getting hotter
i know what to say,
i know we're spoken for
i don't want to know where
you found that old slice of a smile
something entirely unfair
it's one thing i'll keep just the same, dear
it's just that i don't want to know where
you found that old slice of a smile
something entirely unfair
it's one thing i'll keep just the same, dear
it's just that i don't want to know
and it's one thing i'll keep just the same, just the same
it's one thing i'll keep just the same
i'm still under water
warm up your father's car
like the oldest daughter
i know what to say,
i know i'm spoken for
we're still under water
turn up the static now
weather's getting hotter
i know what to say,
i know we're spoken for
you found that old slice of a smile
something entirely unfair
it's one thing i'll keep just the same, dear
you found that old slice of a smile
something entirely unfair
it's one thing i'll keep just the same, dear
it's one thing i'll keep just the same

I adore this song.
For me, it's about the moment you see someone you used to care for deeply. Seeing them feels like being underwater; everything is disjointed and disconnected, almost surreal. He knows things have moved on (he is spoken for), but in that moment, he is drowning in memories of how it used to be between them.
The saddest part for me is the bridge. It's so heartbreaking. He doesn't want to know how she managed to become happy again, feels that it's unfair, but also is keeping that memory of her smile close to his heart.
i dunno. just wanted to share my ideas
@jeaneem22 That is incredible. I wish I was deep enough to put that together. Thank you.
