Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.
Help yourself, help the rest
Give blood away, give blood today
Each drop away
Help yourself, help the rest
Inhale exhale
Lungs paper frail
Light up away, go
Don't let go, just breathe slow
So hold on, it will pass
Don't give up, don't let go
Grey clouds, they'll, they'll break up
Rest yourself, rest your head
Be still, play dead.
Learn to acquiesce
Forget all the rest
Free yourself, free your head
Don't shy away, open your veins
In wet summer rain, go
Don't let go, just breathe slow
So hold on, it will pass
Don't give up, don't let go
Grey clouds, they'll, they'll break up
Just breathe slow.
Just breathe slow.
Give blood away, give blood today
Each drop away
Help yourself, help the rest
Inhale exhale
Lungs paper frail
Light up away, go
Don't let go, just breathe slow
So hold on, it will pass
Don't give up, don't let go
Grey clouds, they'll, they'll break up
Rest yourself, rest your head
Be still, play dead.
Learn to acquiesce
Forget all the rest
Free yourself, free your head
Don't shy away, open your veins
In wet summer rain, go
Don't let go, just breathe slow
So hold on, it will pass
Don't give up, don't let go
Grey clouds, they'll, they'll break up
Just breathe slow.
Just breathe slow.

"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
This song may be about someone he knows that always gives a lot of themselves to everyone. Someone that is used by others in many different senses. Someone who endures emotional pain because of this. Depression occurs in this person, but the person will make it back because there is always hope. This song is dedicated to that very hope.
In an interview available on Youtube, Yannis talks about how on TLF he often used lyrics as a way of writing himself out of of depressive situations, and then he explicitly uses this song as an example. Once you view the lyrics through that lens, they make almost perfect sense - Yannis is almost comforting himself, telling himself whatever bad time he;s going through will eventually pass. If you experience anxiety and depression, this song should be your anthem, your motto. It's incredibly brilliant.
i couldn't figure out the lines where the question marks are, i didn't even wanna guess, cause i have literally no idea what he's saying.
i thought i might as well just post up the lyrics that i knew, cause they aren't on the internet anywhere D:
i think the first ? is "lungs paper frail"<br /> and the second ? "and to outweigh this" <br /> more sure about the first one but 70 percent sure on the socond one too :)
The verse where you have the question mark could go something like this:<br /> <br /> Rest yourself, rest your head <br /> be still, play dead<br /> until we vanish forget all the rest<br /> Free yourself free your head <br /> don’t drive away open your veins <br /> and wait till the rain goes<br /> <br /> Ok it doesn't make much sense but it's better than question mark, eh? :)
it could be that ! but i'm hearing the word 'requis' where you've put vanish and i don't know why..<br /> that line is such a mystery !
I like the new album. A bit sad compared to the last one, but oh so pretty. I think this one is going to be my winther album for 2010.
I adore this album, this is possibly my favourite song of it. Not only is it a beautiful, swooning and mezmerising song, it's also a song that has effected me in life. I've been in a massive slump, possibly the most depressed I've ever been in my life. I found this record around the time I'd started running, and put Blue Blood at the start of my running playlist, spanish sahara at the end and 2 Trees as a song to listen to as I recover. This beautiful record has actually lifted my spirits, and the uplifting sound and message of this song is one I won't forget :)
I really love your comment. It's exactly how I feel about the song. I'm a really shy girl and schools been hell for me because of it. I haven't been able to open up or talk to anyone in 4 years besides my mother. I had to repeat a grade because I skipped so much school. But I'm back, in 10th grade, and realizing that I do have friends...they just didn't get a chance to know me because I never tried to know them. It's still hard for me to talk to people, but I'm getting better. I have days where I'm in a really bad mood, where suicidal thoughts come back, and I feel like I won't get past it. That's where music comes in, and this song is definitely one of the reasons I'm still here.
After the first chorus when the E bow sound comes in its the best bit, it's so dark and twisted absoluted bliss
Songs about donating blood, and things go a bit wrong: the person donates to much. I feel hospitals are a reccuring theme on the album
I think it´s maybe aubout dying and accepting it as a part of life.
First off' i adore this band with all my <3
It's about riding yourself out of a paranoid or depressive situation ... About believing whatever the situation it's not the end of the world .. Again superb lyrics
