Favourite Colour Lyrics

The day that your brother started to talk
Was the day that I found you like that
The national child star in a coat and a scarf
Alone in the laundromat

Now we've got the keys to an apartment we share
And we stay up as late as we like
Like K-Ci and Jojo, like Sonny and Cher
You're Tina but I'm not Ike

So tell me what's
Tell me what's your favorite color
Tell me your favorite color
Tell me how's
Tell me how's your younger brother
What grade is he in?

Go back to the roof tops
Of the homes in your town
Your brother had started to say
Go back to the roof tops and kick the shingles down
'Cause the days and the nights are the same
And the weather complains

The least you could do is try and act surprised
Try and act alright
You're here for the chase
And next year is a ways away

So tell me what's
Tell me what's your favorite color
Tell me your favorite color
Tell me how's
Tell me how's your younger brother
How's your younger brother
Tell me what's the first
Very first record you owned
'Cause I've got no plans if you don't
No plans if you don't

(7, 8)

Tell me what's
Tell me what's your favorite color
Tell me your favorite color
Tell me how's
Tell me how's your younger brother
How's your younger brother?
Tell me what's the first
Very first record you owned
'Cause I've got no plans if you don't
No plans if you don't

(Okay, double it)

I thought it was "I got no plans if ya don't"? It sounds like he's slurring it all together, but I feel like that makes more sense.

It seems like the plans for dawn thing does make sense, seeing as he's discussing staying up late and nights and days being the same.

Corrections according to the lyrics sheet:

"try and act alright" instead of "try not to write" and it's definitely "'cause I've got no plans if you don't"

Someone wanna explain how they're like K-Ci and jojo, sunny and cher, and she's tina but he's not ike?

I think it's because Ike Turner used to beat Tina Turner.

I think the song is about this guy who is in love with this girl but there is still so much he doesn't know about her. But I'm completely clueless about music so I'm probably wrong.

To me this song is about someone just wanting to talk to and be with someone. They just want to sit back "in an apartment they share" and talk all night. It's about just loving someone so much that you just want to talk to them. Whenever this song comes on I can't help but think about my girlfriend and how I just want to talk to her all the time. But no matter the meaning great song, great lyrics, great band.

My Interpretation

To the person questioning about the K-Ci and Jojo line, they're a pair of hip hop artists who are brothers. Sonny and Cher were a pair of lovers back in the 60s. Saying "You're Tina but I'm not Ike" is a reference to Tina and Ike Turner, which was a well documented abusive relationship where Tina Turner was beaten by her husband Ike. He's saying they're like salt and pepper couple-wise, like Tina and Ike... if Ike didn't beat Tina.
