The Believers Lyrics
Muddy trail beside the water
Leads the lambs into the slaughter
Hands and knees, we all atone
Path is paved with blood and bone
Trembly hands reveal their purpose
Blisters form beneath the surface
No one gonna make us leave
We're the ones that still believe
Fear comes piercing through the silence
In the air, the scent of violence
Watching from above the trees
We're the ones that still believe
We're the ones that still believe
We're the ones that still believe
Leads the lambs into the slaughter
Hands and knees, we all atone
Path is paved with blood and bone
Trembly hands reveal their purpose
Blisters form beneath the surface
No one gonna make us leave
We're the ones that still believe
In the air, the scent of violence
Watching from above the trees
We're the ones that still believe
We're the ones that still believe
We're the ones that still believe

"BLOODY trail beside the water / Leads the lambs into the slaughter" means to me we are the lambs of god and we can see something wrong is going on but since we all play follow the leader we are lead to our death. We help destroy ourselves.
"Hands and knees, we all atone / Path is paved with blood and bone" were on our hands and knees and the path were on is paved in the blood and bones of our own kind via war hatred for one another and so on.
"Trembly hands reveal their purpose / Blisters form beneath the surface" again we can see their hands shaking/trembling and know whats coming.
"No one gonna make us leave / We're the ones that still believe" no one can kill us all off and there are still ones that believe in the right. They are the ones that see and tell others to look.
Second half
"Fear comes piercing through the silence / In the air, the scent of violence / Watching from above the trees" angels are watching from above in silence and they can sence violence. They watch from above the trees as we fight and destroy each other over NOTHING.
these are my thoughts on the song. :)
Its about religion + destruction
(Christianity or Islam, you decide)
Muddy trail beside the water - The water is religion, the muddy trail is fundamentalists Leads the lambs into the slaughter - leads the brainwashed to do things like kill and blow themselves up. Hands and knees, we all atone - we will all pay for this Path is paved with blood and bone - with our dead loved ones Trembling hands reveal their purpose - Nervous hands reveal a bomb Blisters form beneath the surface - blisters form under the skin of those near No one gonna make us leave - nobody can talk them out of this brainwashed state We're the ones that still believe - believers have to do it themselves
Fear comes piercing through the silence - when the belief causes fear of others In the air, the scent of violence - an eye for an eye Watching from above the trees - Watching from our buildings We're the ones that still believe - we bow to the gods at our own peril
Each track on the album is about how to "destroy angels".
your taking this song way to literally it does make obvious refernces to christianity in most of the first part (psalm 23:something "the lord is my sheperd he leadeth me by the still waters........") christians pray for atonement for their sins on their hands and knees, and 9 times out of 10 peoples hands tremble when they have ill intentions and are about to act on them (try it) as for the line about blisters, I cant really explain it with words its more of a feeling you wouldnt understand unless youve felt it. in short the whole song...

Maybe we are all on a path towards death and there is really no stopping it. Or possible the singer is a 'god' that is saying nobody truly believes in them anymore, and humanity is all destined for death. Again i have no clue.

I had similar thoughts as the previous two posts. Really seems similar to "Right in Two" by Tool.
blueox01 - I find your interpretation to be pretty close-minded, also how convinced and definite you present it. However, I don't mean to insult or attack you.
I believe the album is about how people are ruined by what's around them. They're "angels" being destroyed. It is talking about human society and how it changes people. This song in particular, about how people walk the same path, maybe even knowing it is wrong, led by people knowing where it leads to, yet feeling unable to leave it, simply because it's hard or they have been destroyed and given up. Most people think they're "survivors", haven't "given up", tell others "not to give up", while in the end, they're the ones who've given up themselves and everything around them, now being a regular, living part of the society and world they find to be wrong in so many ways.

Sorry if my interpretation of the song is provocative. The song itself may have been conceived with that in mind.

Old tribal psychology and poor religious explanations for our origin stand in the way of this goal. Do not worry though, our open divergent society will one day dilute the the foundations of these ancient traditions so much that they will fall by the wayside like all the other extinct religions.
