Maver Lyrics

Maver with her lucky bonnet
She used to paint her flowers on it
She keeps her memories on a turnstile
'Cause she's superstitious
She thought she'd be famous
And tell me if I'm wrong
But her picture should distract some playmen
Yeah maybe you'll be lucky enough
To hear her sing on Sunday
Oh Maver

Maver and her bonnet
Strings the flag upon it
Betting on the bonnet
Supposed to get easier
She's playing on the easy piece for her
Oh Maver

She was a true blue bird
A traveler
She left her home post for the West Coast
With a guitar and a bar of soap for 'ole San Francisco
And a foolhearted head hole
Well she landed in a flat with some fellas that were lucky to meet her
'Cause she can play the six-string better than
This much you can bet her
Oh
So Maver

Maver and her bonnet
Strings the flag upon it
Betting on the bonnet
Supposed to get easier
She's playing on the easy piece for her

How many nights did you make it without it?
Oh
How many lines on your face can take away your stone?
Oh

How many nights did you make it without it?
Oh
How many lines on your face can take away your stone?
Oh

Maver and her bonnet
Strings the flag upon it
Betting on the bonnet
Supposed to get easier
She's playing on the easy piece for her
She's playing on the easy piece for her
Oh Maver
Oh Maver
Oh Maver

I think that that this song is a touch on how the music industry corrupts people. Maver is less an actual person, but a representation of purity and talent and big dreams. She comes to California thinking she'll make it big but comes to realize it's not what it's cracked up to be. California has this paradisiacal draw to the rest of the country, but appearances can be deceiving. I think this also goes in line with the rest of the album because many of the songs on it are exposing the terrible state of the music industry and the radio.

Weiland used the song to tell a story of a girl who headed to San Francisco to be a star and ended up betting all her money on the ponies. Dean found the song to have a "country-gospel vibe" and described the music as having two distinctive sonic layers. "If you listen to the backbeat and check out what the bass and drums are doing, the drums are very distorted, very big and broken up, as is the bass. Yet the rest of the song is very beautiful and ethereal. Great piano playing, too."

from wiki

they took down all the song meanings off of wiki from the new album... wtf why?!?!

i read alot of reviews on Stone Temple Pilot's new self titled album before it was released hoping to be able to grasp any bit of information on the new album..... i remember reading that scott was trying to break away from his "self-obsessed" writing and try to become more of a story teller... this is one of those songs they were talking about where he tells about story... ^^^ pretty much sums it up

Agreed. Although, I'd like to point out the title of song. If you notice, Maver is short for Maverick. According to Oxford dictionary, Maverick is "An unothodox or independent-minded person". So it's the story of a free-spirited girl moving to the big city to strike it big. Except life always has an unexpected bend down the road. Kind of a somber tale. Weiland always had a country streak. (Creep, anybody?) he just rarely shows it. A beautiful song IMO

yeah scott weiland also signed a country artist to his label softdrive records after hearing a country musician that he really liked... so i def agree scott has a little taste for country
