Let Me Go Lyrics
Well he was sitting on his tailgate
She was loving on his rough neck
She was talking bout running away
And he was puffing on a cigarette
And just thinking
How am I gonna say goodbye
He said "girl you got it good here
You don't need to mess with
A guy goin nowhere"
She said "how's about Texas"
He got up and shook his head
"Damn!" he said
"Ain't you've been listening
It's never gonna work out
And I think it'd be a good time now
To let me go
You don't need me baby
Stop holding on
The way you are
Don't you know
I'm no good for you
And it'll only break your heart
If you don't
Let me go"
He said "other than a dreamer
I ain't nothin but a drifter
And you can do a lot better"
He leaned over and he kissed her
He said "you've got another year of college
And a good momma and a daddy
Me, I got 93 dollars
And this old 82 Chevy
So let me go
You don’t need me baby
Stop holding on
The way you are
Don't you know
I'm no good for you
And it'll only break your heart
If you don't
Let me go"
She said "nice try
But you can't hind behind those shades
That are on your face
See, I don’t think
You're all that tough
I just think you're scared of love
And I think I won't take up that much space
Let me go
Take me with you baby
It's so cold
Outside your arms
We both know
That you're not as strong
As you think you are
So let me go
Take me with you baby
I belong where you are
Don't you know
I’m so good for you
And it'll only break your heart
Down the road
If you don't
Let me go
With you baby
Let me go
With you baby
Just let me go
Yeah"

Firstly, whoever added this lyrics, they're butchered — but I digress. It's about a guy who has a girlfriend who he doesn’t think he deserves. She's totally enamored by him, and knows he's the best thing she could ever ask for. He loves her more than anything also, but thinks she deserves all the things in life he cant give her. So he hesitantly decides that it'd be better if he broke it off with her so she can focus on all the great things she has right at her finger tips, never thinking that even with everything he can see she has, he's the only thing she really cares about. She then explains to him that she knows exactly why he's saying the things he's said and that he needs her more than he actually wants to admit. That in the long run, it'd be worst for the both of them if they didn’t have each other.
Any-who, I figured since no one had posted anything I'd lay my opinion down. At least this is what it means to me.
This is a great song, but I do think that Jason Michael Carrol sings it better. Maybe that's because I heard it from him first, but anyways the lyrics are wonderful and I love the way it ended, with the girl explaining that her life really will be better with him in her life instead of breaking it off.
