Dirty Cartoons Lyrics

go home, I'd like to
stumble to bed and lay beside you
until we're even or romantically bored,
whichever comes first

go home, I'm trying
but I've been misled by dirty cartoons
you'll keep me honest for old time's sake
I'm begging of you, go home, go home

(I'd like to) go home

I've mined the graveyard of unpublished poems
you should be so lucky
consider the meaning and shrug it right off
you'll only encourage me

(I'd like to) go home

I like to go home

Tiny thing: "CONSIDER the meaning," not "considers."

This song is amazing. My favorite on a stellar album.

I feel like these lyrics are looking at a relationship through a lens of expected familiarity. It is a glimpse of the longing that accompanies a homecoming, that expected familiarity, and it is captured flawlessly in this song. I'm particularly partial to the lines,

"I've mined the graveyard of unpublished poems you should be so lucky consider the meaning and shrug it right off you'll only encourage me"

Many times I have placed important lyrics in front of deaf ears. Wanting my audience to hear a deeper meaning that sums up my heart's intent, only to have them "shrug it right off."

Beautiful, beautiful song.

I've always thought this song was about a guy who was caught by his partner for watching porn, then he got kicked out of the house and now he's begging her to allow him to come back.

Love Menomena
