Travesty Lyrics
You cover me!
I am spent
and with death you paid my ransom
for the witness of your word.
To bring them in,
the jackal's sin.
Oh, the eyes death are upon me
and the watchman takes his toll.
If the river runs dry it will never take us home.
With idle minds we prove unconscious.
As the hunter stalks his prey.
His eyes, his eyes are locked on me
You cover the darkest part of me
with a look that's sure to set the captives free.
Oh, make way
for I am not the redeemer
Nor do the mountains fall in my name
But with slightest cry, my hunter,
you will fail to reach your prey.
Still with idle minds unconscious,
as the hunter stalks his prey.
His eyes, his eyes are locked on me.
You cover the darkest part of me
with a look that's sure to set the captives free.
With love that the blindest eyes will see,
You cover the darkest part of me.
As I am met with travesty,
and I am broken and I am empty.
And through it all I can see your face.
With words unspoken
I hear your voice and
I see the hand, The hand that writes it all.
You've called the wind to show its worth.
You've called the sun to brag about its warmth.
Because you are the writer!
Because you are the soul of the world.
You cover the darkest part of me
with a look that's sure to set the captives free.
With love that the blindest eyes will see
You cover the darkest part of me.
Because you are the writer!
and with death you paid my ransom
for the witness of your word.
To bring them in,
the jackal's sin.
and the watchman takes his toll.
If the river runs dry it will never take us home.
With idle minds we prove unconscious.
As the hunter stalks his prey.
His eyes, his eyes are locked on me
with a look that's sure to set the captives free.
for I am not the redeemer
Nor do the mountains fall in my name
But with slightest cry, my hunter,
you will fail to reach your prey.
as the hunter stalks his prey.
His eyes, his eyes are locked on me.
with a look that's sure to set the captives free.
With love that the blindest eyes will see,
You cover the darkest part of me.
and I am broken and I am empty.
And through it all I can see your face.
With words unspoken

With love that the blindest eyes will see
You cover the darkest part of me.

This is an amazing song. The lyrics mean so much to me. It speaks of our redemption because of Christ's death and how he covers the darkest parts of us. It also speaks of being broken and empty yet through it all seeing that God/Jesus Christ is there. Such beautiful lyrics.
So this is my take on the song, Im gonna break it down peice by peice
You cover me!
(Jesus covers our sins)
I am spent and with death you paid my ransom for the witness of your word. To bring them in, the jackal's sin.
(He saved us with his death now we should go forth and make disiples and tell people about him)
Oh, the eyes death are upon me and the watchman takes his toll. If the river runs dry it will never take us home. With idle minds we prove unconscious. As the hunter stalks his prey. His eyes, his eyes are locked on me
(Satan is now after us even more now that we are saved, and he will stop it nothing to drag us to hell with him)
You cover the darkest part of me with a look that's sure to set the captives free.
(Pretty obvious, Jesus covers our sins and sets us free)
Oh, make way for I am not the redeemer Nor do the mountains fall in my name But with slightest cry, my hunter, you will fail to reach your prey.
(We are not God, we are messengers of him, and Satan cant stop us because we have God thus "you will fail to reach your prey" Satan is our hunter)
Still with idle minds unconscious, as the hunter stalks his prey. His eyes, his eyes are locked on me.
(Still some of us do nothing for God after what he has done for us, and this is our most vonerable time, the "hunter" never stops stalking us so why do we stop tell people about God?)
You cover the darkest part of me with a look that's sure to set the captives free. With love that the blindest eyes will see, You cover the darkest part of me.
(Pretty obvious, Jesus covers our sins and sets us free, his love is so strong everyone including the blind will see it)
As I am met with travesty, and I am broken and I am empty. And through it all I can see your face. With words unspoken I hear your voice and I see the hand, The hand that writes it all.
(The hunter strikes and tragety happens and we are left empty and broken, but we can still see His face, and as if without words he speaks and comforts us telling us it will be okay and the hand that wrote the world into existence reaches down and holds us)
You've called the wind to show its worth. You've called the sun to brag about its warmth. Because you are the writer! Because you are the soul of the world.
(To prove he is the only God and the hunter cant compare he calls the wind and the sun to show how strong he is because he wrote the world)
You cover the darkest part of me with a look that's sure to set the captives free. With love that the blindest eyes will see You cover the darkest part of me.
(Pretty obvious, Jesus covers our sins and sets us free, his love is so strong everyone including the blind will see it)
Because you are the writer!
hit the nail on the head!
hit the nail on the head!
Do you know what he means by "The Jackal's Sin" because i cant figure that out....

Oh, make way for I am not the redeemer Nor do the mountains fall in my name But with slightest cry, my hunter, you will fail to reach your prey.
i love this part
My favorite song on the new Haste the Day release. Certainly quite a change even from Dreamer. The clean vocals, while painfully different, are stilling stunningly beautiful.
This song is quite obviously a "Jesus song", talking about how Jesus covers the darkest parts of us. Even when we suck, and sin, he covers us with his blood and "sets the captives free", with "love that the blindest eyes will see."
This one always puts a smile on my face. Sometimes I will just look up at the sky with this playing and wonder if God is watching over me. I agree with the first meaning. Though the "You are the writer" part to me is like Jesus wrote our future for us. idk just a thought =) HTD rules!
