Alabaster Lyrics

She's up in the sky
She's up in the domes
She's up in the sky, up in the dome

I knew a girl who came from Villa-Luz
Had a house filled with
Religious regret and infinite debt,
Heaven's pressure

She's a light in the dark
She's out of the door
She's up in the sky, up in the domes

Alabaster lover
You won't get more
We make each other
You won't get more
You won't get more
We make each other
You won't get more

She's up in the sky and the sky is on fire
She set the whole neighborhood to life
Then the people they'll read out all their names
Run away, run away, run away

And with victory the whole world will be ours
We will fear nothing in it
Nothing in it

Alabaster lover
You won't get more
We could make other
You won't get more

Alabaster lover
You won't get more
We made each other
You won't get more

Alabaster lover
We made each other

Pretty sure I have this half figured. The song has alot of references to caves, specificall Cueva de Villaluz. A cave in Mexico with sulphuric acid rivers. Most obviously the line "I knew a girl that came from Villaluz." Villa Luz also translates to House of Light, which explains the references to the house, and possibly the glowing insects that live in the 'domes' or the roof, of many caves. "Shes up in the sky and the sky is on fire." "She's up in the domes" "She's a light in the dark."

And finally, Alabaster is either a Calcite or Gypsum, both of which make up the stalactites and crystals etc found in caves.

As to the victory lines etc. Someone help me out??

Song Meaning

I don't think they would go that deep into their lyrics actually..

please tell me you dont think foals dont go deep, if you think that then dont listen cuz you arent catching what they say. but im not sure if theyre actually talking about caves maybe theyre useing caves as a metaphor to the world perhaps?

I had a little help from the booklet (via a forum) on the second stanza. All the rest I did my best at on my own. I'm sure I may have botched up a few lines. Let me know if anyone has suggestions and I will correct whatever is agreed upon.

Thanks for the corrections. Once you think you heard something it's hard to try to hear that something differently all on your own - the help is appreciated. I think you're probably right about the, "you go and get gone" part too, but I'm not certain. Maybe someone else can chime in.

>And with victory the whole world WILL be ours And with victory the whole world would be ours We will FEAR nothing in it, nothing in it

That's how I hear it. Makes more sense, too, right?

I think it might be a love story, or a memorial of a girl one of them loved dearly. She's up in the sky, up in the dome might metaphorically mean how she's died and is now in heaven. He talks about a house filled with religious regret and infinity debt, heaven's pressure, so she may have been a nun or a girl extremely religious. She's a light in the dark, she's out of the door. She's remembered for her religion and how she made other people's lives happier. Talking about lighting the sky on fire and neighbourhood to life can be a religious comment of the Holy Spirit's fire and revival, I don't think this song was focused on pentacostalism, but it could be a reference. Hearing people read her name made him sad, "run away, run away." And yeah, love story. If someone knows what's really up, I would LOVE to know.

My Interpretation

holy moly. if anyone is familiar with the donnie darko soundtrack, the music sounds very familiar to a certain song on that soundtrack.
