I think this song is about trying to let go of the pain and start over. The mask he wore was to show that he was okay on the outside but inside he is falling to pieces. He is trying so hard to believe that there is something more, something better then what he had. He wants to start over, to not be alone. As much as he is trying the words and memories left in his head is making it impossible, but the hope is there. He wants more for himself, he deserves more.
