Go Outside Lyrics

I really want to go out
I really want to go outside and stop to see your day
You really want to hole up
You really want to stay inside and sleep the light away

I really want to go out
I really want to go outside and make it light all day
You really want to hole up
You really want to stay inside and not care where you lay

Well I know what's good
Exactly cause I have been there before
Yeah I know what's good
Exactly those things night cannot behold

I really want to go out
I really want to go outside and stop to see your day
You really want to hole up
You really want to stay inside and sleep the light away

I think it's good to go out
cause if you don't you'll never make a memory that will stay
I think that you should wake up
I think I want to live my life and you're just in my way

I think the second to last line should be " I think that we should break up".

I think with the initial audio of reverend Jim Jones 'But to me, death is not... death is not a fearful thing, its living thats treacherous... Do not be afraid to die! If these people land out here, they'll torture some of our children here, they'll torture our people, they'll torture our seniors, we cannot allow this!....' A part of which is then repeated under the rest of the audio later on, and the video of the song showing the Peoples Temple with the band members edited into the footage - being placed with those who leave Jonestone, that the song could have a double meaning of being from the perspective of one of the survivors of Jonestone or one of the people who want to leave, with the 'You really want to hole up' being Jones who wants to hole up in the compound and commit suicide.

About a stagnate relationship where the singer feels restricted by her partner's laziness. Let's make memories together or I need to move on.

I think it's about religious oppression. Religion does not want you to go outside and live the life you want, but always keeps you in check. "Well I know what's good exactly cause I have been there before" - not because some strange book or preacher tells me what's good and what's wrong in theory.

"You really want to hole up" - this is exactly what religious fundamentalists do. They don't care what's outside their religious circle, their religious friends and religious points of view. They just want to blindly believe that what their religion teaches is the best way. But the singer does not want this. The singer wants a true life experience which will become the standard by which good and wrong will stand.

And the final words, "I think I want to live my life and you're just in my way" show the final rebuttal in which the singer recognizes the religious threat and simply dismisses its constraints.

My Interpretation

Leave it to some religious nuts to vote you down.

I believe your interpretation is spot on. Not only with Jim Jones at the beginning of the song essentially praying for death, but also this video http://www.mtv.com/videos/cults/677819/go-outside-version-2.jhtml#artist=3863205 give all the credence to your thoughts.

For all you religious nuts, stay inside and die. The rest will go outside and stop to see the day.

I feel this song is not so much about another person as it is the inner duality of the person who wrote it. The struggle of our mental health at times can keep us in between the good and the bad so to speak. Fact of the matter is. Sometimes you just need to go outside. It will change your whole perception

I think it's "I think that you should break up," not "I think that you should wake up."

Sounds a lot like me and my sister.. total opposites. haha.

Well, I think the singer is realizing that their boyfriend/girlfriend is on a different page on them. The singer wants to explore new things, etc. (Could possibly be due to a big age gap between them.) The two have different interests and the singer realizes they should break up.

Ya think you should be dating your sister. LOL. Age is a number as long as both people are muture adults, not big teens or small children dating much older, wiser, and more dishonest adults. I'm not sure with whom YOU hang, but I have friends in their 40's and 50's who are more wild than those who believe they are truly living life in the fast lane. Once people are older, they lose their inhibiltions. They also have more money to live life as they wish. They have more opportunities due to their financial and emotional freedom, and they...

I mean you SHOULDN'T date your sister. That would be just plain icky.
