A Drowning Lyrics

It's the glare from the reflection
Making patterns in your eye
It's the looking back in anger
For every second slipping by
Undertow has come to take me
Guarded by the blazing sun
Look at everything around us, well
Look at everything we've done

Please, anyone?
I don't think I can
Save myself...
I'm drowning here, please
Anyone?
I don't think I can
Save myself...
I'm drowning here, please
Anyone?
I don't think I can
Save myself...
I'm drowning here please,
Anyone?
I don't think I can
Save myself...

There's a tiny little window
Swarms of locusts fill the sky
Maybe I'd just disappear
If I can't keep my head above the tide

Please, anyone?
I don't think I can
Save myself...
I'm drowning here, please
Anyone?
I don't think I can
Save myself...
I'm drowning here, please
Anyone?
I don't think I can
Save myself...
I'm drowning here please,
Anyone?
I don't think I can
Save myself...

I can dig it. Not disappointed in what Trent and his woman have done thus far. <3

Can't really tell what it means until the rest of the EP is released. But it's absolutely gorgeous, and hearing Q's vocals over Trent's sound is great too. It makes it all the more better.

My favorite song off the EP. I love it.

My Opinion

The only decent song released by this group so far, despite it sounding very rehashed (Downward Spiral and Ghosts, to be specific).

It's a plea from mother nature and has to do with global warming.

Um, I don't get all the hate here. I mean, the comments about the song being about the earth got voted way down, as also those about it being about a relationship ending? Those meanings do fit the song, whether you don't agree does not make them any less valid.

And neither is it the point whether you like or not the relationship between Trent and Mariqueen. If the website's name doesn't make it clear enough, this is about sharing what we think are the meanings of the songs, it is not about the singers. Whether their relationship is this or that should be commented elsewhere, if ever.

"It's the glare from the reflection Making patterns in your eye It's the looking back in anger With every second slipping by Undertow has come to take me Guided by the blazing sun Look at everything around us, well Look at everything we've done"

In another words, look at this fine mess we're in. Past actions represent the reactions of now. We understand that there's light, love & warmth all around us but we're just too comfortable with hate, envy, anger, fear and "the struggle".

To me this is just the struggle of a single person. A person being very far from alone in how they feel and she's just trying to communicate with somebody - anybody. Is there anybody else who understands this flood of emotions? Is anyone else daring enough to admit that they too see this downward spiral.

"There's a tiny little window Swarms of locusts fill the sky Maybe I'd just disappear If I can keep my head above the tide"

So many problems plague the mind yet there's still hope. The attention being given is at odds with the type of attention she actually needs. Perhaps if she were left alone for a moment she could get away from it all.

In essence (to me) it's a cry for survival. Alienated and/or rejected in isolation seeking somebody who cares to understand. Something that's fleeting in society at the moment: compassion.

My Interpretation

@matt104629 I'd also say that this is a person searching for some peace of mind. One more attempt at finding someone who'll listen & care to listen rather than brushing off the problems as inconsequential and weak. A person admitting what they're in the chorus are of course the opposite of weak.

A low key track but I can sense a tremendous level of frustration & isolation.

Sounds like “The Event”: a Polar Shift/Solar Flare.

I agree with Joe K. It seems that she just can't let that old partner go and she is losing herself in her own thoughts and sorrow from the breakup. That relationship was the thing holding her above the surface but without it and without the one she was with she is alone and is sinking again.

She is looking back in her past in the beginning,

It's the glare from the reflection/Making patterns in your eye - may mean that she is blind to the faults in the relationship that caused it to end in the first place because she just wants so badly to be stable once again.

It's the looking back in anger/For every second slipping by - the anger that he isn't coming back to her, or maybe from what he did to her.

Undertow has come to take me - her emotions overwhelming herself.

Guarded by the blazing sun - the longer she is staying "above the surface" or in the relationship, the safer she feels, but the sun is burning her. It is better off that she doesn't stay in the sun.

Look at everything around us, well/Look at everything we've done - her seeing what they accomplished when they were together, maybe in an attempt to point out the good things to make him come back.

The chorus is quite self explanatory i think.

There's a tiny little window - representing hope for a life after the breakup.

Swarms of locusts fill the sky - blocking her view of the window, so she can't see it clearly.

Maybe I'd just disappear/If I can't keep my head above the tide - if she doesn't fight long enough maybe she will stop trying and just go away from life and be trapped forever in a downward spiral.

I like it. Different from NIN but still has that feel to it. Hopefully the other songs coming with the EP will be a bit more lively at some points, not that this song isn't great. I felt maybe a bit too deep today with lyrics....may have gone a bit far with this song hah. probably wrong but thats what i see.

My Interpretation

The locusts represent all of life's little problems. A swarm of them means there are so many little problems that, collectively, it's too much. Imagine being outdoors and one bug is nagging you. It's annoying but it's not a big deal. Now imagine being covered with a tons of bugs that keep crawling all over you and biting you. It would induce insanity.
