If I can't be a man, tell me what I am?
Tell me what I'm here for?
If I can't be the one, tell her what I've done
What good can I be?
Did I not do enough to save the two of us?
What more could I give her?
What more could I do to see her point of view?
Why can't I believe her?
Sometimes the things they say, I can't take it no more
They think you've gone too far, oh oh
Oh, Jamelia you've got to go away
And take time, oh
Tell me what I'm here for?
If I can't be the one, tell her what I've done
What good can I be?
What more could I give her?
What more could I do to see her point of view?
Why can't I believe her?
They think you've gone too far, oh oh
Oh, Jamelia you've got to go away
And take time, oh

i think the textures, the contrast in sounds and the timbre of his voice say more than the lyrics do.
really, really wonderful song. it can make my eyes water like few can
I love this song.
This song is hauntingly beautiful to me and has such a true, familiar story that so many can relate to. I'm surprised there's only one comment on it so far.
This is what it means to me: After months, perhaps years, of struggling to live up to Jamelia's standards, the singer is finally seeing their relationship in a new light. He realizes that he will never be the man she wants him to be, no matter how hard he tries. If they are going to have any chance of surviving as a couple, she, not he, will have "to make the change", and quickly, because he "can't take you(Jamelia) no more". It sounds to me that if Jamelia doesn't change a little of herself for him, he's going to give up and leave her.
such an emotional, beautiful song
Are these lyrics verified? I hear the chorus a little differently.
To me it sounds more like as follows -
"Sometimes the things they say; I can't take it no more They think you've gone too far, oh oh Oh, Jamelia; you've got to go away And take time, oh"
