Wait Up (Boots Of Danger) Lyrics
I'm on your team
But I never know when you're not
You never wear shoes without your socks
You never tell anything to me
I'm on your side
But only for a while of course
You never use words you can afford
A house of cards and it's a sign
So wait up
You never get nervous anymore
So wait up
You never get nervous anymore
What did you want me to say?
Hey
What did you want me to do?
What did you want me to say?
Inside the lines
Gotta catch 'em in a paper cup
You never know when to change your luck
The sum of everything you like
I'm on your side
So introduce me to your friends
With the music and the lights and everything
So wait up
You never get nervous anymore
So wait up
You never get nervous anymore
What did you want me to say?
Hey
What did you want me to do?
What did you want me to say?
It's only on the weekends
Only on the television screens
Always with your girlfriends
Always with the conversations
Making up for lost time
Making it with me
Wait up
You never get nervous anymore
So wait up
You never get nervous anymore
What did you want me to say?
Hey
What did you want me to do?
What did you want me to say?
But I never know when you're not
You never wear shoes without your socks
You never tell anything to me
But only for a while of course
You never use words you can afford
A house of cards and it's a sign
You never get nervous anymore
So wait up
You never get nervous anymore
What did you want me to say?
Hey
What did you want me to do?
What did you want me to say?
Gotta catch 'em in a paper cup
You never know when to change your luck
The sum of everything you like
So introduce me to your friends
With the music and the lights and everything
You never get nervous anymore
So wait up
You never get nervous anymore
What did you want me to say?
Hey
What did you want me to do?
What did you want me to say?
Only on the television screens
Always with your girlfriends
Always with the conversations
Making up for lost time
Making it with me
You never get nervous anymore
So wait up
You never get nervous anymore
What did you want me to say?

What did you want me to do?
What did you want me to say?

So, here's my 2 cents on the whole thing. I think the entire album is about childhood memories, family, and growing up.
That being said, I think that this is a song from a mom's point of view to her son. He's growing up, and is it at that stage where he grows further apart from his parents. He "never gets nervous anymore". And never tells her anything anymore. All these sorts of things seem to indicate a son becoming more and more independent of his parents.
I'm not too sure about "it's a sign" part of the second verse there.
it is "it's a sign"
it is "it's a sign"
title is backwards - should be "Wait Up (Boots of Danger)"
Corrections from lyrics sheet:
"you never use words you CAN afford" and the sheet says it's "a house with anything inside" so that doesn't really clear it up because he definitely doesn't sing that.
TPC has also decided to label the song "Boots of Danger (Wait Up)" on the actual CD. Ha.
To me it always sounds like "a house with continents inside" which doesn't make a whole lot of sense but I suppose it's close in meaning to what the lyrics sheet says, so maybe that's it

Great song, my favorite on the album. Now slpain to me.
Sounds like a guy meets a girl, and after just knowing each other for a little while, the girl put the guy in the friend zone, but he wants to have a relationship
I think it's definitely a view of a changing relationship, especially with the "you never get nervous anymore" meaning that when you first start dating, every kiss and everythhing is new and exciting but as it's been going on, the girl is starting to feel differently and more than likely losing those feelings. I think that's also part of the "wait up" part because he's trying to say like "hey, hold on, we're having some clear issues because you're not feeling how you used too." I think alot of the other verses such as "I'm on your team but I never know when you're not you never wear shoes without your socks you never tell anything to me
I'm on your side but only for a while, of course you never use words you can't afford a house of cards and it's a sign"
are describing what kind of girl she is and how well he knows how she is and how he can tell she's changed.
I think it is the point of view of a guy who is realizing that his relationship is a sham. Because his girlfriend, gives him no attention and doesn't give him any attention, except "only on the weekends" so she is "making up for lost time". She isn't invested into it, anymore. And the narrator has done everything, and said anything, so he's given up. He's saying Wait Up, but I think he realizes their relationship is ending.
Great Song. Love TPC.
I think this song is about a boy who loves a girl just a bit more than she loves him. He gives her everything and she's distant, doesn't tell him anything, ect. She only seems to have time for him when it's convenient for her.
Love love love this song.
well he definitely says "house of cards." So if the lyric sheet say "a house with anything inside" maybe the final version is "a house of cards, anythings inside"

Also, "you never get nervous anymore." I think of it like the nervous feeling you get when your first dating, like when you go for your first kiss. If this person never gets nervous anymore, it probably means they don't have the same feelings they used to.
