I feel strongly that this song is simply about the guy feeling so crazy in love with a girl he met. She may be a close friend. He dreams of her. He "falls down", or stumbles, when she is around him. "Cupid's bow, it stung" is self explanatory, it means Cupid shot his arrow and he knows this girl is the one for him, he is in love. He says he can't contain the control she has on his soul. He is helpless in his feelings for this girl, he cannot help but to have these feelings. It's almost as if loving or having feelings for this girl comes natural, regardless of what he wants. "When all is said and done, I know you're still the one" simply means no matter what, in the end, she is "the one" for him. That is how I interpret it all.

This is the best song of the album in my opinion!
I think it's about falling for someone and them having a control over you. I love the line, "Hoping this is just a phase But when all is said and done, I know you are still the one". It's like something everyone experiences, wanting to get over someone but them still being "the only one" for you.
I love this song. It's such a sexy love song. The whole entire album is pretty sexy. But The Only One is just exceptional. I agree....it's just about being in love so much that you can't hardly see straight. Like you are just hypnotized by someone. And no one else comes close to capturing your attention. Although the line "Like a ghost, the one I love most...disappears when I get near" definitely says that the girl is a bit elusive or perhaps isn't as in love with him as he is with her. But I can't get enough. Just bought the CD 2 days ago...and this track is in my top 3 of ones I play the most. I love the beat of the song as well...
I kinda agree with crazedwannab with that line but I think it means more about a girl going through a phase about wanting to be on her own and stuff but the guy knows when all is said and done and she is the only one for him and he's hoping its mutual. This might be just from personal experience but its what I see.

love this song.
to me, I interpreted the song slightly differently. the song really speaks to the helplessness you can experience when your feelings for someone is so strong, but it's a bit more haunting than just that. I think the line about the one he loves most who turns into a ghost, is the one he really loves. there seems to be an aching that is more than just for this person who is the "only one." it's almost like he's defeated that this person is the only one left, and the one he loves most is changed.
this song is great because the lyrics are so simple and easy to understand; its a guy who can't get over a girl and as much as he tries to get passed it he is always defeated because she will always be the only one to him.
what makes this song great though is the psychedelic, upbeat 60's sort of feal in the music and the singers decision to sing it in a high falsetto type pitch, and when you really listen to everything, you'll notice there's so much going on! organs, drums, guitar, faint whistling noise, echos, etc...
