Evening Kitchen Lyrics
(oooo oooo oooo)
Drive out with the sun in your eyes
You wasted my time
It's true, it's true
My god, don't you hold out your hand
I called off my plans
I counted on you, on you
And if you're ever left with any doubt
What you live with and what you'll do without
I'm only sorry that it took so long to figure out
(oooo oooo oooo)
Got lost in the places I've been
I should go out with my friends
I'd go tonight but I know you'll be there too, there too
For me, this bottle of wine
Is to slow down my mind
And forget the things that I knew, I knew
And if you're ever left with any doubt
What you live with and what you'll do without
I'm only sorry that it took so long to figure out
(oooo oooo oooo)
You wasted my time
It's true, it's true
I called off my plans
I counted on you, on you
What you live with and what you'll do without
I'm only sorry that it took so long to figure out
I should go out with my friends
I'd go tonight but I know you'll be there too, there too
Is to slow down my mind
And forget the things that I knew, I knew
What you live with and what you'll do without
I'm only sorry that it took so long to figure out

Just beautiful. You can really feel the pain in his voice, his disappointment on this person.

this is one of my favorite songs by them, sadly it is the anthem to my last break up...i cant imagine it would be about anything else...
Sounds to me that the narrator is a self centered and ungrateful human being. Took for granted the person who cared about her. Behaves like a teenager and has always put her ridiculous friends above him. Only because he is fed up with her, she wants him back. He did everything for her and she was never there for him. that is just my take though

This song absolutely gives me goosebumps.
I agree with the person above me, but rather see it as passively getting caught up in someone in turn of it ending and realizing what you've missed.
In my opinion though I think it's called "Evening Kitchen" because...well in romantic sense the kitchen is where it can be most romantic. I don't know how well to describe it without getting all narrative but think of it as all those lonely, desolate nights you spent with a significant other passively knowing that only bad will come out of it, it all happens in the kitchen because the kitchen is where you build a home, a family. And it's like saying that the evening kitchen is where this is all taking place- in desolation and lack of words
I think its obviously about a break up. I can relate to this song completely... "I'm only sorry that it took so long to figure out." This is a gorgeous song... He talks about how he was caught up in someone and missed a lot of other opportunities. "Got lost in the places I've been." To me, it sounds like he regrets the relationship and resents the person, but isn't facing the pain and going to things like alcohol.

Incredible song- it's fairly self-explanatory, a bitter song about a breakup where you feel as if your time has been wasted because the girl in question took a long time to 'figure something out' which meant she couldn't be with you- all the while allowing you to fall for her and seem as if she was falling for you too.
This song is even better performed live. Absolutely chilling when they sing together.
Evening Kitchen is hauntingly beautiful. A previous poster mentioned that the kitchen is where domestic life happens and where is everything is built. She leaves behind a life of extreme partnership.
The reference to light indicates truth, where she leaves truth behind ... I guess she knew all along that something wasn't right, for her, in the relationship. But she is sad, and resists, probably until the end, to end it ... and he doesn't mention that they both called off plans and counted on each other.
It should actully be these lyrics:
What you'll* live with and what you'll do without
He is saying, you know what you're capable of doing now ... what you can tolerate in love ... with your partner. So, maybe she indicated at some point that she was unsure of what she wanted. Well, leaving is a definite answer, isn't it!
He is lost in the past: I've been. So maybe he forgot about her with past memories haunting his new ones. I say this because he talks about the wine, and how he uses it to forget, perhaps, the mistakes he made in the other past and this one too.
And he is really only sorry that it took so long to figure out, for her.
I think because he never had any intention of changing.
This song is about overcoming addiction. I had the realization this morning right at the lyric "I'd go tonight but I know you'll be there too, there too". Not a break up with a girl, but with a drug.
