On My Way Back Home Lyrics

On my way back home
a chance I thought of
all my favorite songs
and where I'd gone wrong
the only words that I could think of
I'm pissing my life away in the form of a song
On my way back home

Every step
a victory it was
I was cheating death
And just in time I would
My memory would start to wander off
and come to me
the remembrance of on my way back home

I came in this way
in here now I'll stay
If the unknown will have to wait one more day
'Cause often times then it comes out wrong
but luckily I got a mind to know
On my way back home

Thanks for the lyrics!

This song reminds me of the setting of the movie Adventureland.....sort of the teenage youth in small town America.

The tile of this song is "On My Way Back Home". I was just about to resubmit the lyrics when I noticed this hiding down the list. Also, a small correction: "word" in the 5th line should be "words".

Thanks, I corrected both those. Any idea about the second line where I have a question mark? Is he really saying chance?

Best song from the Infinite Arms album. It reminds me of my childhood and makes me want to visit the place where I grew up. Miss it, but love the song.

Frontman Ben Bridwell (From The Skinny): "A lot of people reference the Beach Boys with this song without us even telling them that when we went to mix it we actually went to the studio where the Beach Boys recorded Pet Sounds."

I kind of think the line in the second verse is, "I was cheating death, and just in time I won." This lyric says 'would' and a bunch of other sites say 'woke.' In context, I think 'won' is most appropriate. Love the song!!!

First verse suggests the song writer taking a public mode of transportation, (i.e.; train, subway) comfortable and contemplating song lyrics on his “way back home.” Second verse suggests he nods off to sleep and finds himself dreaming a child like dream of heroism. And like so many of us, before he meets doom within this dream (“and just in time I woke...”), he suddenly awakens. And as he comes to his senses, he remembers where he’s at, where he’s going, on “his way back home.” Third verse has me a little stumped...
