LOVE this song. Second favorite after "Animal."

This is what I make of the song:

A guy has been seeing a girl for a while or else actually in an official relationship with a girl. She keeps her distance as to protect herself from getting hurt. He really does care about her, and just wants for her to let him in. He can't get as close as he wants to be to her - not just physically, but even more importantly - emotionally. He has deep feelings for her but they can't be fully satisfied unless she opens up her heart to him all the way.

The lyrics

"I got close to your skin While you were sleeping"

seem to suggest a yearning to merely get phyiscally close to her, but I think it has a deeper meaning as well. That meaning being that he can only get close to her when she's not aware. When he's open about his feelings towards her, it scares her and she distances herself more.

He can't force her to let him in, so he's waiting on her to open up to him on her own, and it's driving him crazy, and he wants to know, that as true and sincere as he is towards her now - when will she ever surrender her heart to him and just give in? He really cares about her but there's no sure way to make her see. She's got to make the decision to let him on on her own.

I think this song is more about a girl he has no relationship with. An "admire from afar" situation.

To me the opening lines is him seeing her sleeping in his dream. "I taste the salt on your hands" is just a description of how vivid the dream is "I reached out to touch you / the morning light disarms you / won't you let me in" describes how infinitely close he got to physical interaction during the dream before being shooken away by the daylight

In keeping with that translation, the second verse is him just trying to be close to her, even though she likely has no idea who he is. "Stalking" in a harmless and innocent way. Intense longing for something he doesn't have the guts to take or the hope to think would ever work out.

Throughout the song, he's trying to take as many silent forms as possible (dreams, shadows, ghosts) to just be with her without her knowing.

This song really resonates with me; truly the surprise hit of the album and so beautifully bridges the two radio singles. I'm not even sure how Tyler is supposed to sound at the end when he screams out the final "Oooooo"s, since I always find myself screaming it right along with him.

I think that this song is about a boy who has been seeing this girl for a while but sees that she has put up many "walls" around her heart so that she will not get hurt. I think that he is singing about trying to break down those "walls" so that he may get close to her.

this is how i see it thou:

this guy or girl whichever is best. in this case, a guy trying to have the hearts for this girl. but she is already in a relationship.

from here to simplify is like he'd already known the girl for quite sometime, such close as a bestfriend for instance. he love and want her, but he as well knew she has a man already. so....

"It's a long way for heart break Let your heart wait and bleed How long till your surrender to me?"

here, he is thinking that it would be a long way in expectation for this girl she love to breakup with her man, then after all the tears and sadness would then he know that she'd be opened. but how long will that be.. is his question.

and the rest of the verse is basically about him stalking and hoping that he'd be the only one.

The way I see this song is very similar to most of yours. I can relate to this song very much.

I see the protagonist is into someone who he cannot have, obviously it could be for various reasons, but like most of you, I see it that the person is already into someone else, not necessarily already with someone else. But then again, I see it that way because that's how I relate to it =P

A few months back, I started to develop feelings for this good friend of mine, but at the time, she was into another friend of mine.
