The Fire-Tree Bird

Wandering through the living desert seeking a limb
That I could rest my head upon and let my thoughts begin
I'd never seen another feather before so elaborately patterned
My senses were shattered to the floor
I asked it what its name was and it answered with ease
As it swung itself in rhythm through a crack in the breeze
But did it understand my reason for crying
When it shot through a hole in the sky?

The Fire-Tree Bird is leaving today

He's losing his mind, and leaving behind
A fiery world
(It's so absurd)

Was only a part of your mind
Seek and then maybe you'll find yet another one

Searching to the end of every rope in the stars
But it didn't leave a note or send a heavenly card
I read the patterns apprehending the wall
Was I searching for feathers on the fall?
