Stay Lucky Lyrics

It took so long to get me back on my feet
It takes so long to find the words and the beat
And Charlie's waiting on the end of the phone
To hear you call on him to try to recapture
But them old records won't be saving your soul
And them feelings died for reasons you know
That you've forgotten somewhere
Riding a train to place you bought out in BaCoCa
And it feels like all you'd have to do is step outside
Stop pacing around and waiting for some moment
That might never arrive

But you're never gonna find it
Like when you were young
And everybody used to call you lucky

Nothing feels right in the wintery cold
Steam, heat, clang, and the dark at your door
All the other rooms are a party tonight
And you never got an invitation
And you feel in your bones
Steady aching some more
Twenty five years gone just an hour ago
Momma never told me there'd be days like these
Until it was much too late to recover
And it feels like all you'd have to do is step outside
Stop pacing around and waiting for some moment
That might never arrive

But you're never gonna find it
When your knees got so weak
But it's right here in case you need it
Like when you were young
And everybody used to call you lucky
When you were young
And everybody used to call you lucky

But it feels like you just might explode inside
You've been pacing around and waiting
For some moment that might never arrive at all
What you don't have, you don't need it anymore
What you don't have, you don't need it anymore

But you're never gonna find it
When your knees got so weak
And it's right here in case you need it
Like when you were young
And everybody used to call you lucky
When you were young
And everybody used to call you lucky

If you're anywhere in Manhattan
In the next eight days or so
Let me know
Speak soon, stay lucky.

I love the last part of this song.

"If you're anywhere in Manhattan in the next eight days or so..."

Makes the whole song incredible.

i think this song is rather self explanatory, all my life ive been waiting for a certain moment of change to arrive and to bring me fortune, luck, self-fulfilness and happiness

(And it feels like all you'd have to do is step outside Stop pacing around and waiting for some moment That might never arrive)

But this moment might never arrive because life isnt like this and the truth is that this moment is in ourselves and we can determine wether we are at this point and change our life and become happy, or not.

(But it's right here in case you need it Like when you were young And everybody used to call you lucky)

All our happiness isnt the outer life, its us! We will be able to be happy and to live happily when we want it really from the heart, we just have to change our point of view.

Great song, great band, saved my life!

This pretty much sounds like this song is about how Brian Fallon had writer's block when writing this album. It was easier to write songs when he was young, but then he felt as though he might "explode inside". He realised that once he stopped trying so hard the words came to him ("Stop pacing around and waiting for some moment that might never arrive").

Kerrang! magazine said that the Manhatten line comes from the e-mail which their guy sent to the band when they first heard of them and wanted to meet them.

Talk about a dream, try to make it real You wake up in the night, with a fear so real, Spend your life waiting, for a moment that just don't come, Well, don't waste your time waiting, -Springsteen, Badlands

Where's BaCoCa? And the line "Momma never told me there'd be days like these Until it was much too late to recover" has got to be from the Van Morrison song.

To me, it seems this song is about the pressure mounted on a band after writing such a successful album and then to be expected to do so well in the next one, if not better? Anyone agree?

Is 'What you don't have, you don't need it anymore' taken from the U2 song beautiful day? Not sure whether U2 are a major influence on them or anything.
