Blue Blood Lyrics

You've got the blood on your hands, I think it's my own.
We can go down onto the streets and follow the shores.
Of all the people, we could be two.
Then I bite my nails to the clip, run back home.

You've got the blood on your hands, I know it's my own.
You came at me in the middle of the night to show me my soul.
Of all the people, I hoped it'd be you.
To come and free me, take me away.
To show me my home.
Where I was born.
Where I belong.

You've got the blood on your hands, I want you to know.
I hoped that you'd come and take me away, back to my home.
Of all the people, it had to be you.
Then I bite my nails to the clip, run back home.

You showed me.
Where to go.
To my home.
To my home.
So take me.
Through the roads.
That you know.
To my home.

You've got the blood on your hands, I know it's my own.
You came at me in the middle of the night to show me my soul.

You showed me.
Where to go.
To my home.
To my home.
So take me.
Through the roads.
That you know.
To my home.

(Come and help me accept it, affect it, protect it.
Come and help me accept it, it's always my home).
(Come and help me accept it, effect it, protect it.
Come and help me accept it, it's always my home).

You showed me.
Where to go.
To my home.
To my home.
So take me.
Through the roads.
That you know.
Where you know.

You showed me.
Where to go.
To my home.
To my home.
So take me.
Through the roads.
That you know.
To my home.

(Come and help me accept it, affect it, protect it.
Come and help me accept it, it's always my home).
(Come and help me accept it, effect it, protect it.
Come and help me accept it, it's always my home).

You've got the blood on your hands, I know it's my own.
We can go down onto the streets and follow the shores.
Of all the people, I hoped it'd be you.
You showed me my way back home.
To where I was born.
Where I belong.
Where I belong.

I also think its "Blue Blood" as in 'the blood of a depressed person' ,like The Supplanter said.

The video reminded me of a book I had to read for school called "El niño que enloqueció de amor". The little kid falls in love with an older woman because she humors him, thinking of it like a game and 'what a cute little kid'. The boy goes crazy over suffering from unrequited love.

The kid in the video is a great actor. icanfeelthepain

This reminds me of one of my best mates leaving me for University, and trying to get her to come home, but i have to bite my nails and let her go

I think I got a couple of the lyrics wrong but Yannis' vocal style has changed on this album so it was tough to get a couple of the lyrics.

Such a wonderful song.

the new album is stunning.. i love it when bands mature, Yannis has improved a lot both vocally and lyrically.

thanks for the post!

I agree, the new album is a massive leap in the right direction. Blue Blood and What Remains are incredible songs.

And I fully agree with what you said about Yannis, his lyrics and vocals are much-much stronger. I also like that they're at the forefront of the songs now.

His Greek heritage shines through on Total Life Forever. A magnificent album and one that was definitely worth the wait.

Throw another agreement in for this album being a huge leap. I liked Antidotes but I am absolutely in love with this whole album and this is the best song on it. In terms of the lyrics, it looks pretty accurate...there are two parts that I'm hearing something different:

>

  • I'm hearing "shoals" instead of "shores" in the first and last verse.
  • The layered part is somewhat unclear but it sounds more like "Commonly accepted, affected, protected" rather than "Come help me accept it, affect it, protect it" to me.

After listening to the live version of the song, i think its pretty clear its "Come and be accepted, affected, protected"

Yeah, the lyrics on the Total Life Forever website say "I bite my nails to the quick run back home". And I agree with zlan, I'm also pretty sure it's "Come and be accepted, affected, protected".

Anyway, great song with a very good bassline. It's addictive.

Hello, I have listened to this song and studied the lyrics for a few days now (caught the clip on a late night music show and loved it - so poignant. The kid is a great actor.)

I have a PhD in English Literature and have 7 years study of latin and Ancient Greek and I am currently a researcher in my university. I know this doesn't make my interpretation any more valid then the next person's (each will have their own) but maybe some of you will give credit to my reasoning.

I believe that the words "Blue Blood" should be treated separately i.e. "blue" can sometimes mean "depressed" in modern usage and "blue blood" would therefore refer to the blood of a depressed person, which could/would refer to suicide.

The lady on the clip could either be his mother or his teacher (perhaps both meanings are intended as a mother is also a teacher) because when she is addressed personally by the boy she touches her hair, which is either a subconscious sign of attraction or, more likely, embarrassment. In any case she is someone who is supposed to intervene in this boy's life to save him from shedding his "blue blood".

I believe that references to the word "home" mean "a safe haven" or "a place of acceptance". There is some issue with this boy being safe and/or accepted in society, which suggests that he is somehow "different".

In the lines about 'YOU have my blue blood on your hands/I think it's my own', "you" could either be 2nd person singular (i.e. one 'you' or 2nd person plural (i.e. multiple persons). So the boy is not only addressing everyone in the hall (who represent society in general) but also the woman individually in a personal accusation of guilt on her part.

In the line "you came at me in the night to show me my soul" 'came at me' could either be an aggressive term and could be a reference to a bad dream, or it could be that "came at" simply means "arrived". Again the "you" could refer to the wider group (representing wider society) or the singular woman.

The line "of all the people we could be two" is quite interesting. In this case the "we" could be the third person 'we' i.e. reflexive. So the boy could be saying that of all the people (in this hall) I could be two people (i.e. schizophrenic). Certainly the behaviour depicted in the clip would support the theory that the boy is deeply troubled.

So, in sum, I believe that the song is about mental illness, seeking help (and perhaps not finding it), and social acceptance of difference. They boy is begging for the lady's help (his mother or teacher)hence he is on his knees at the end.

    Just my Interpretation.

    Cheers All!

    My Interpretation

Hey man, appreciate your stripping down of the content.

Just an idea, could the 'Blue' blood and the line 'you show me where to go, to my home' have anything to do with Yannis Philippakis the lead singer being from Greece and it's a song about someone that reminds him of home?

    Thanks

As far as visual symbols in the video go, I'd agree with Thesupplanter: the elements of a person's psyche have split into various neurosis and "returning to the mother" is the solution they seek. However "she" appears unresponsive. Which would be right, since rebirth in a psychic sense is not an intellectual effort. So the song is more about the anxiety, frustration-bordering-on-pleading, and panic of wanting to move on, knowing one must move on, but all known options closed. Waiting for time, and the reply of the unknown, the only thing left to do.

I'd say that the fact that the flag for Greece is blue and the fact that Yannis is Greek, tied with the lyrics about being taken home and shown around, where he was born. He's got "Blue Blood".

Makes the most sense to me, anyhow

Good to see someone with the same idea as me :)
