Bushwick Blues Lyrics
Hold on to my hand
Never let go
Never let go
We were just two kids acting tough
Then we grew up
Me, not so much
All the other guys that you've seen
are nothing compared to me
Because my love is strong
And my heart is weak
After all
When we first met
We spoke so brief
When you sang a sonnet
I hummed sweet relief
Do you recall that night we took the L
Out into Bushwick
It was colder than hell
So maybe there
We should have stopped
Cause I'm left here feeling like a cop
Because my love is strong
And my heart is weak
After all
To the other side
of the state's return
I met a young girl
Well I couldn't manage her
Because I think of you
In every girl i meet
It's no relief
That sounds to me just as sweet
So maybe I'm the fool for feeling used
By the way we kissed that night i though you knew
Because my love is strong
And my heart is weak
After all
Never let go
Never let go
We were just two kids acting tough
Then we grew up
Me, not so much
are nothing compared to me
Because my love is strong
And my heart is weak
After all
We spoke so brief
When you sang a sonnet
I hummed sweet relief
Do you recall that night we took the L
Out into Bushwick

I feel like its about a guy who can't get over a girl because he's been in love with her since the day he met her. He's never felt so in love with someone and he feels weak and maybe a little bitter for not being able to get over her (my love is strong but heart is weak).

I absolutely love this song. I can't get enough of it.
The Best Song EVER!
what is 'L'?
The "L" is a subway line in New York City, Bushwick is a neighborhood in Brooklyn off of the L line.

It's about a guy who becomes infatuated with this girl, who uses him to get out of town and dumps him there. And then as he's heartbroken and going home, he meets another girl. But he can't manage a relationship, because he still thinks of her.
The line "Because my love is strong, and my heart is weak, after all" is interesting. He uses it their first two times to show how much he wants this girl, but it becomes more of a curse in the end. His love (Or more like infatuation) is so strong, but his heart is too weak to let go.
I say infatuation because he talks about how they spoke so brief when they first met, but gives us nothing else for us to base how long they've known each other. So our only thing to do is to assume that they haven't known each other for too long. But, in a nutshell, it's about being used and being heartbroken over it, but still wanting the person who hurt you. Great song.
well maybe this might be a bit out there but i think that he meets a girl falls in love with her and she's able to move on but he wasnt able to. i came across this by accident but apparently bushwick is a notorious place for prostitution in brooklyn so the line about meeting a young girl, i think is about him turning to prostitutes for some kind of comfort but he just cant forget about her
Your idea is wrong as far as prostitutes go. Bushwick is the broke artist/musician area of Brooklyn, NY. Most likely the lead singer either lived in Bushwick or dated a girl in Bushwick and this is his song about her. While prostitutes may be a problem in Bushwick, as a resident of Bushwick, what the reputation of the neighborhood is among artists today is that is the area where all their friends live.

Another theory is that neither of them lived in Bushwick, but they just went to a party there and the night was memorable.

For those who don't know what Bushwick is. It is an artist neighborhood that is becoming gentrified after being a ghetto (although it still kinda is one). The subway that goes to Bushwick is the L train (and JMZ subways). This song must be about either the songwriter or the songwriter's girlfriend living in Bushwick. It is also possible that the title comes from an important night in their relationship where the went to Bushwick, most likely for a party because that is the only thing there really is to do in Bushwick.
"Because my love is strong, And my heart is weak- after all"
It's quite simple. The boy is in such love, but this girl- she probably doesn't like him as much has he likes her. They had shared a very special moment together and since then he's been in love.
"But from the way we kissed that night I thought you knew
Because my love is strong, and my heart is weak- after all"
