Chamberlain Waits Lyrics
I've been awake for hours
As I watch a sunrise come over nothing
While outside the cars start racing
Searching for something we could never seem to find or afford
Maybe I owe the devil a little something
Just to keep things stable
Because last night I realized I was nothing more
than just a serpent for his plans
Chamberlain's waiting down at the bottom of the city of hell
Or heaven itself
As the whistle she sings
My hands building weapons for kings
While somebody's drinking my last rations of victory gin
I'm sober as sin
As my hands start to shake
I fill with post-modern debates
While Chamberlain's waiting
Build our mistakes to the clouds
Then blame us for dreaming out loud
As I watch a sunrise come over nothing
While outside the cars start racing
Searching for something we could never seem to find or afford
Just to keep things stable
Because last night I realized I was nothing more
than just a serpent for his plans
Or heaven itself
As the whistle she sings
My hands building weapons for kings
While somebody's drinking my last rations of victory gin
I'm sober as sin
As my hands start to shake
I fill with post-modern debates
While Chamberlain's waiting
Then blame us for dreaming out loud

This band is unreal.
How has nobody commented on this?
It's a shame how few people know the Menzies
Victory gin is an Orwell reference. Chamberlain could refer to Neville Chamberlain, who infamously gave up territory to the Nazis before World War II while downplaying their potential danger. Chamberlain is remembered for his miscalculation of the danger the Nazis posed and is best known for... well... waiting. The Menzingers have always had very leftist political undertones and strong anti-war sentiments in many of their songs and I like it a lot. They are very smart and the points they make are made smartly.
This songs about the Chamberlain arms factory, i think, which was outside their studio space in Scranton PA. They realized that the factory was just waiting there ominously, for guys to eventually become adults and then sorta seamlessly become workers there. Like the typical evolution of humans to become part of the interworkings of the modern world.
