Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now
Wish right now
Wish right now
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now
Wish right now
Wish right now

I could use a dream or a genie or a wish
To go back to a place much simpler than this
'Cause after all the partying and smashin' and crashin'
And all the glitz and the glam and the fashion
And all the pandemonium and all the madness
There comes a time where you fade to the blackness
And when you starin' at that phone in yo lap
And you hopin' but them people never call you back
But that's just how the story unfolds
You get another hand soon after you fold
And when your plans unravel in the sand what would you wish for if you had once chance?
So airplane, airplane I'm sorry I'm late
I'm on my way so don't close that gate
If I don't make that then I'll switch my flight
And I'll be right back at it by the end of the night

Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now
Wish right now
Wish right now
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now
Wish right now
Wish right now

Somebody take me back to the days
Before this was a job, before I got paid
Before it ever mattered what I had in my bank
Yeah, back when I was tryin' get into that subway
And back when I was rappin' for the hell of it
But nowadays we rappin' to stay relevant
I'm guessin' that if we could make some wishes out of airplanes
Then maybe oh maybe I'll go back to the days
Before the politics that we call the rap game
And back when ain't nobody listen to my mixtape
And back before I tried to cover up my slang
But this is for the Cada, what's up Bobby Ray
So can I get a wish to end the politics
And get back to the music that started this shit
So here I stand and then again I say
I'm hoping we could make some wishes out of airplanes

Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now
Wish right now
Wish right now
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now
Wish right now
Wish right now

I could really use a wish right now
Like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now

having hayley in this song was perfect. i don't think any other singer could have made needing a wish right now sound so real

awesome song. and hayley is, as always, amazing.

pretty obvious meaning..the song's about how he misses the old days, when he used to rap just for the sake of rapping, when the world was way simpler, with none of that glamorous living madness.

Cassiebluv, I'm pretty sure they use airplanes because shooting stars are so uncommon and there are always airplanes in the sky. So if they could pretend the airplanes were shooting stars they could make a wish. Atleast that's what I thought.

I don't know if it's just another song for Haley, but when she sings the chorus I can almost hear something like a yearning. It just feels so sincere.

I really love this song. It's already become one of my favorites. Hayley's angelic voice makes anything incredible.

@WhoIAm06, I got that too. Her humming throughout the song makes everything sound so serene.

The line "and get back to the music that started this shit" stands out to me. It's like he's emphasizing the two words, saying that today's music is shit compared to how it was.

    My Interpretation

Airplane is about how Hip-Hop and Rap today is different from the past.

"And back when I was rappin' for the hell of it But nowadays we rappin' to stay relevant"

Those who rap force rap to become a career to make money, rather than to rap from the heart.

"And back before I tried to cover up my slang"

It was seen proper before to cover your slang, but as status quo moves on, it is now modern to use slang.

Not taking anything away from Hayley's performance, but it should be noted that she wasn't the writer of her part.

This song is def a twin to "Unfair" (a song she has been quoted as saying is about falling in love with someone who is already in a relationship) so it is presumably about the same person. Given the references to buying an apartment and not being able to see her love interest "after tonight," it's most likely that she's moving away and she'll "wait a day to break the bad news" (i.e. notifying him that she's leaving once she's already gone). And, of course, the fact that she sees in him a fellow "idealist" and "dreamer" (terms commonly given to people with the INFP personality on the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)) portends that she'll always be left wondering if they would've been perfect together.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
