The Afternoon's Hat Lyrics
And violently you swung, through an unfamiliar tongue
Couldn't listen, to tradition
Grab me by the wrist to silently insist...
You hold me in place
The ripples on the ceiling, the avenues
Oh/own the sugar taste
We'll waste away the evening
The afternoon, The afternoon's hat
Together we'll find something to direct some laughter at.
Listening to the fools, tickling the rules
Their obsessions followed patterns
Sat upon their stools, with their attitudes.
You hold me in place
The ripples on the ceiling, the avenues
Oh/own the sugar taste
We'll waste away the evening
The afternoon, The afternoon's hat
Together we'll find something to direct some laughter at.
You hold me in place
The ripples on the ceiling, the avenues
Oh/own the sugar taste
Waste away the evening
The afternoon, and The afternoon's hat
Together we'll find something to direct some laughter at.
Can't believe this was left off the album, one of their best B-sides and thats saying a lot. Seems to be a love story of some sort.
This song has a sort of abstruse lyric. But it seems to talk about a relationship with a prositute, maybe a stripper.
We can see by the third strophe, where Alex sings something about someone taking off clothes/shirt(for money: prostitution) and not giving a shit about it.
When the song tell us about the avenues, it would be representing what would be her "workplace"
The "ripples on the ceilling" would probably mean a hectic sex, but it only makes sense to me when "waste away the evening" means ''overnight love''.
Also, "the unsugared taste" could be referred to the "avenues", a place the ''male lover'' repudiates.
The Afternoon's Hat itselfs seems to me as a way to call hidden sex.
Fuck!!! Greatest Monkeys song besides Secret Door. I'll fight anyone who disagrees. Always made me think of a "it's us against the world" type of relationship.
