Blackie's Dead is about his cat, Blackie. Who died. I fully realize that he in no way makes this clear at all, but I thought I could fill in that gap at least.

Pete Yorn told a talk show host in an interview that hair bands, heavy metal and the Smiths inspired him as a young musician. I can only guess that Blackie is a reference to Blackie Lawless from WASP who was mistakenly pronounced dead by the media when actually Blackie's younger brother had died.
