Goodnight Moon Lyrics
I think it's too early
And we just need a little time to ourselves
In the morning,
I'll give it hell.
To try and be the perfect song,
When our hearts are heavy burdens,
We shouldn't have to bear alone.
And goodnight you,
When you're all that I think about.
All that I dream about.
How'd I ever breathe without
From goodnight you,
The kind of hope they all talk about.
The kind of feeling we sing about.
Sit in our bedroom and read aloud,
Like a passage from goodnight moon
Your song for tomorrow
And tell me my name's the one sitting in there somewhere
It in color about
We know the sun's still rising but we don't care
To try and be the perfect song,
When our hearts are heavy burdens,
We shouldn't have to bear alone.
And goodnight moon,
When you're all that I think about.
All that I dream about.
How'd I ever breathe without
From goodnight you,
The kind of hope they all talk about.
The kind of feelings we sing about.
Sit in our bedrooms and read aloud,
Like a passage from goodnight moon
And I saw my Juliet come graceful down the stairs.
It's hard to miss,
The way her eyes light up the room,
And steal the air.
Lock on to every breath I take;
Can't breathe it in.
And goodnight you,
When you're all that I think about.
All that I dream about.
How'd I ever breathe without
From goodnight you,
The kind of hope they all talk about.
The kind of feeling we sing about.
Sit in our bedrooms and read aloud,
Like a passage from goodnight moon
And I saw my Juliet come graceful down the stairs.
It's hard to miss,
The way her eyes light up the room,
And steal the air.
'Cause I can feel us falling
Cause I can feel us falling
'Cause I can feel us falling
'Cause I can feel us falling

I think the people above me got it pretty spot on :). Is is just me, or does this song sound like a beautiful lullaby? Jason is an amazing lyric writer, and his voice is gorgeous <3. I'm in love with this song.

It's fairly plain and simple. Good night moon and goodnight you. The book Goodnight Moon is about a bunny who is saying goodnight to everything in sight. In this song Jason is ellaborating on this aspect and is talking more specifically to a girl. He doesnt want them to go to sleep yet cause them the morning will come to soon.
(And don't go to bed yet, love, I think it's too early, And we just need a little time to ourselves. If my wall-clock tells me that it's four in the morning, I'll give it hell.)
He saying goodnight moon because the morning is coming asnd he knows that she has to leave soon.
'Cause I've been trying way too long to try and be the perfect song When our hearts are heavy burdens we shouldn't have to bear alone.
he doesnt want to be alone. and wen he speaks about not caring the sun is rising hes saying he wants her to stay amd not to do watever it is she has to leave for. he also alludes to the book Goodnight Moon saying "Sitting in our bedrooms and read aloud like a passage from Goodnight Moon." saying goodnight to eachother.
i like ABuri's comment, it explains it well, but it seems like there are 2 girls in the story... at first i thought he's talkin to his wife or gf and then he says "And there you were, as I saw my Juliet come graceful down the stairs, It's hard to miss the way her eyes light up the room and steal the air." and i thought that was his daughter but then it talks about her lips locking and taking his breath, and i realized he said "my juliet" which normally means your girl or lover or what-not, and it's...

And ABuri, u have a REALLY good point and idea, but how would it work that hes with a girl, spending time and wanting more when it says "And there you were, as I saw my Juliet come graceful down the stairs, It's hard to miss the way her eyes light up the room and steal the air. Just feel her lips lock on to every breath I take and breathe it in. Do you feel us falling? 'Cause I feel us falling." cause that would mean talking about another girl... im still confused...
and btw, i think when he says "Do you feel us falling? 'Cause I can feel us falling." hes either talking about falling in love, or falling asleep, or could just be falling away to a better place or something...
sorry i meant to post that as a regular comment on the song, not on ur comment

ABuri kinda hit it right on the nose. It's about not wanting to go to sleep because he/she has to leave in the morning.
When he says: "And there you were, and I saw my Juliet come graceful down the stairs, It's hard to miss the way her eyes light up the room and steal the air." it probably refers to the first time he saw her after a long time of not seeing her again.

Oh. I'm sorry. haha. If you noticed anything different, maybe you could tell me and we can compare to see what's the actual part.

You forgot the line "Just feel her lips, lock onto every breath I take and breathe it in" right before the line "Do you feel us falling? Cause I feel us falling". Other than that, the lyrics look good.

Such an amazing song.
Such an amazing song.

You know what I hate/love about this song? Even though it's really long for a song, whenever I hear the beginning of it, I can't turn it off; I HAVE to listen to the whole thing.

Everybody has commented on what this song means, and I think you guys are pretty spot-on. I just needed to comment and say that this is such a good song. Go Radio does not wrong in my eyes. I could marry Jason just because I would want to be sung to sleep every night. I love his voice. Mmmmm.

See I definitely see this song about not wanting to go to bed because he realizes how much he loves this girl and he just can't understand how he ever went through life before her:
So goodnight moon, and goodnight you, when you're all that I think about, All that I dream about, how'd I ever breathe without A goodnight kiss from Goodnight You?
But even further than that, I love the Romeo and Juliet tie in. IN Romeo and Juliet Romeo constantly uses light and dark as a comparison for Juliet (she is the sun, a diamond in an Ethiop's ear, etc) and so does he:
And there you were, as I saw my Juliet come graceful down the stairs, It's hard to miss the way her eyes light up the room and steal the air.
And then the fact that they know the Sun is rising but they don't care brings in the Romeo and Juliet because after romeo and Juliet get married Romeo spends the night yet he has to leave the next morning because he killed Tybalt and is now exiled, but Juliet pretends the sun isn't actually coming up.
And dream for me anything, but dream it in color about We know the sun's still rising and we don't care.
Pretty much this is a great song and all of the allusions in it are amazing! I can't wait to see them on the 16th.

I think Moon is a person because on the new album he sings "And daddy's sitting in the corner with Cash when Mr. Moon picks up the beat"
Could be a coincidence! Thoughts?
The moon in Goodnight Moon isn't the same as Mr. Moon from Singing With the King. Mr. Moon in that song is a deceased person and is supposed to be alluding to famous people that have died, like "Mr. Cash" is Johnny Cash, plus he comes right out and says Elvis in the song. THIS song is about the children's book Goodnight Moon, where a little rabbit goes around telling everything in the room goodnight. So in the lyrics, he says good night to the moon, then good night to the girl he's talking about.

Mr. Moon refers to Keith Moon, ex-drummer for the who and deceased. I believe that in singing with the king, he's refering to his father (deceased and a musician), as if he was jamming in heaven with Johnny Cash and Keith Moon :)
