Lay Me Down Lyrics
Ho oh whoa ho ho no oh
Ho ooh oh
Oh ooh ooh
Well this is how it starts two lovers in the dark
On the run from the one that they call Sheriff Sparks
Six guns by the side and bullets 'round their waist
Two shots to the sky signal sign for the chase.
The safe is nearly empty and they were nearly free
But were seen by the good eye of the mean Billy Green
And he screamed at the top of his lungs "They're on the run.
It's the two outsiders grab your horses and your guns"
I said I wish that we could stay here
But I fear our time is come
We could ride out in the darkness
Chasing the rising sun
We gotta pack our bags this instant
We're headin' southbound til the next town
And if we arrive there so safely
Baby you could lay me down
Lay me down
Lay me down
Lay me down
Well its the story of the two, always on the move
They got nothing left to lose 'cept they guns and they wounds
Now they're crossing borders, sheriff's posse on their tail
They'd rather die together than be stuck up in a cell
They drank up all the whiskey and they partied every night
Like it could be the last, the bounty said to 'shoot on sight'
They're chasing in the summer,
Knew it came with a price they wouldn't stop running til they found the paradise
But the sheriff finally found them with his eyes seeing red
So the lovers had to shoot him, had to fill him full of lead
They were finally free to find a place to lay their head
And when he finally did he looked at her and then he said:
"I said I think that we can stay here
Cause I feel our time has come
And we can walk down to the ocean
And sit with the rising sun
So unpack your bags this instant
No more running from town to town
And now that we've arrived so safely
Baby you can lay me down"
Lay me down
Lay me down
Lay me down
Well you're my green eyed girl and I been running around with you
Its the afternoon and we got nothing left to do
So wipe the dirt off, take your shirt off
And we should go hit the Cantina, we got work off
I said its hot outside let me go swimming in your eyes
We been running for awhile why don't you lay down I'll make you smile
I could never ask for nothing better than this
It's just tequila and the beach, it's quite salty when we kiss
I said I think that we can stay here
Cause I feel our time has come
And we can walk down to the ocean
And sit with the rising sun
So unpack your bags this instant
No more running from town to town

Lay me down
Lay me down no oh

Don't they die in the end, and finally find paradise? Kinda sad, but happy at the same time, but the mood of the song stays chill
It references Bonnie & Clyde, but I agree with those that say the song's actual meaning is just a couple want to be together and not worrying about what everyone else thinks about them. They love each other and that's all that matters.
The more I listen to this song the more it sounds like many people and relationships of today. Its like people are living each and everyday like there is no tomorrow and when they do find somewhere that is worth settling for they seem to mess things up as to keep the "chase" on for that perfect life. I will post more once I know what people think.
totally about people who just want to bug them and tell them shit and so on. they only want to enjoy each other and the time they have, and the only way to get away is to make a move. 'fill em full 'o' lead'
I will be the first to say. Come on, its Bonnie and Clyde. It is at least based off them.
would be cool if it was about bonnie and clyde or a similar couple but i think its about being in a relationship that everyone says wont work and should stop but the tell everyone to fuck off and find peace in that and are happy in the end , but noone ever shows the live of bad guys who get away years down the road, the escape is awesome but the life is harder

I agree completely and thats what I think of every time i've heard this song for the past 4 months. Im really surprised that nobody else has stated it and i'm even more shocked that people would doubt it after listening to the lyrics.

@musickeepsmesane : all of them are awesome, but my favorite is Believe.

I just heard this song, it's great.
To me, this song is about being young and carefree, and all that he wants to do is be with this one girl forever. Another interpretation is that they are running from the law and they finally found a place where they can just settle down and have no worries.
"It's just tequila and the beach that's why it's salty when we kiss."
the third and fourth versus are dirty j not duddy b.
and it's clearly a reference to bonnie and clyde.
its the story of bonie and clyde or i think its based on them
