Stop Smoking Because It's Not Good For You Lyrics
Let the lit cigarette to your lips when it fits
Like the wound to your heart that it loathes
'Cause it wasn't always broke
Holding on so long to something that it loves
Like the hole in the yard that we dug so far
Then we left for so long and forgot
'Cause the grass had grown so tall
Erasing all we thought
When I get close I fall
You say, life has got you down
Steady course, we're breaking out
This isn't what you thought it was
I should have known this from the start
Hiked 20 miles of catacombs
And now you're with me in my heart
Looking on so far
Saying, "There, I've got you now."
It's the goals in your mind that you left behind
From the glass, he's a crutch on the path to always losing touch
If you blur it just enough, you might see what you want
Now the dirt from the yard blew away so far,
Growing more each day 'til we saw
It became a mountain range and I just stared and blinked,
Wishing I could change
Say, life has got you down
Set a course, you're breaking out
Find the will to make it now
Before our time runs out
Oh, you didn't want to go.
Been holding on so long.
And now I know you'll make it.
This isn't what you thought it was.
I should have known this from the start.
Hiked twenty miles of catacombs.
And now you're with me in my heart.
Looking on so far
Saying, "There, I've got you now."
Ohhh...
Why'd you have to go?
And why'd I wait so long?
Like the wound to your heart that it loathes
'Cause it wasn't always broke
Holding on so long to something that it loves
Then we left for so long and forgot
'Cause the grass had grown so tall
Erasing all we thought

I think the lyrics are more like this...
Like a lit cigarette to your lips when it fit. Like the lung to your heart that it loaths 'cause it wasn't always broke. Holding on so long for something that it loves. Like the hole in the yard that we dug so far. Then when you left for so long and forgot 'cause the grass had grown so tall. Erasing all we thought and when I get close I fall.
You say life has got you down. Steady course we're breaking out.

There were only a few subtle differences between your translation and mine, I don't see why you had to repost the entire thing just for a few minor corrections. I added the last few verses that I forgot to put in, but I still hear my version though.

I didn't mean to criticize yours, but I've spent a bit of time editing the song in a sound editor to try and hear the words correctly (and I'm still not 100% sure on some of the differences between our versions). Examples being the "Like twenty miles of catacombs" part and the beginning "Like a lit cigarette to your lips when it fit." The second line, however, "Like the lungs..." is correct.

Anyway, great song.

Thank you for posting this version; I hear it closer to what you hear as well. Appreciated.

Its about falling in love, then getting your heart broken. After years you moved on and never saw that person until one day you saw them but see that they have changed and you two just couldnt be together. You just Werent fast enough to catch her before the world you two knew was lost. And all you have is her in your heart
So far, this is my favorite song off of "The World We Know"
yeah I really like this song as well...stands out among the others.

LOL I thought instead of "goals" he said "ghouls"...i'm dumb.

Hahaha. And I thought it was "ghosts."
Hahaha. And I thought it was "ghosts."
I believe it is, "You say, love has got you down" not "life".
Also this is one of my favorites too.

I totally wish I could ask Ace what meaning he has hidden in this song. Some parts are pretty obvious, but all of the lyrics together kind of throw me off a bit.
This songs all about the many goals we set in our minds that don't complete because we forget. Then when we actually try to complete these goals, whether its soon or we wait so long, we try and try just to realize that maybe it was just better the way it was but its too late. It's not all lost though because we learned from setting those goals and setting up the path to try to complete the goal. It's a positve song about finding who you are from trial and error. It's life.
Also I like the metaphor of smoking, if ace is talking about cigarettes. If anyones ever been addicted they hate it and its about the process "setting a course" of quitting and wanting to change your habbits. Not saying that everything is better the way it was
Ace has specifically stated on his "Pay What You Want" tour that this song is about that feeling you get in your chest when you know you need to do something and you do it even though people (possible family and friends) tell you you shouldn't.
