I personally don't think this track is about Chi. I can somewhat see why one might think so, but I don't agree. Alot of Deftones songs are about sex, as I'm sure you are all aware, but 976 is a number often used for phone sex hotlines and other hotlines that charge more than most others. But the Deftones are a complicated band. They may give a song that has nothing to do with sex, a title that does have to do with sex. Their music is open for interpretation, but it all has a special meaning to each member, whatever meaning that may be, and they don't wanna make it obvious what that meaning is to them, because then it would take away from the sentimental value each song has to the individual artist in the band. Especially Chino. This is just my opinion, but it really makes a lot of sense to me. Also, I don't believe that the Deftones made any track on this album ABOUT Chi, they made the entire album FOR Chi, always having Chi in mind and the emotion that goes along with the hardship of what they are all experiencing. Which is why it's such an incredible record. Hope that all makes sense to somebody.

I think this song is definitely about Chi. for me the fist verse says it all For a thousand days You've been staring away Are you faint? Are you thinking?

I am pretty sure that "Your hands that I'm under"....is "Your HEX that I'm under". You know Hex...like a spell. Makes much more sense.

Obviously about Chi. Love the song. The most beautiful song ever done for a brother/friend. How emotional the song really does sound is what makes this band superior to all other bands. They can grab you in a song and shake you into feeling just like they do when writing the song and Chino sings as though he is slapping you into feeling everything he feels, whether happy, sad, longing, frustrated. This band is perfect.

yea, except haze implies that you can't see clearly and the haze is what relates these two people (your haze that I'm under). this haze is an attraction that seems to be very revealing, or at least there is a promise that something will be revealed. there is trust and curiosity on chino's end but instead of being woken up he just seems to be being put to sleep. at first chino says (come and wake me up soon), and then (come and wake me up...)and then (come wake...) to me, this kind of seems like he his being lured toward some understanding, but into something that is all consuming. i think! this is the evil chino talks about, but im still not sure! especially about the 976.

and i agree that this album is directed toward chi but i don't think all the songs are specifically about his circumstance. however, i do think he's had such an impact on the band that this album reflects the void of a lost friend. there is a lot of talk about sleep and feeling anxious, waiting and wanting for something to be revealed. it seems as if their lives have been put on a waking pause and until chi wakes up nothing will do

This song is about, IMO, someone finding attraction in a particular girl, and wondering if it is worth it and thinking of what he wants. Then he goes and says yes mentally. Almost has if another song is supposed to be a continuation of it. Or certain parts of the album being the results if he ask her.

this song is amazing. but really sucks that whenever i hear it when i heading home from school i can't help but think about this one girl who i dream about from time to time..
