Prince Lyrics

I relate to your kind
Your design (your devotion to wave)
Get your brain on the prize
Then dive inside

The mindset
Of a killer
With your mind out of phase

It’s a game that we like
We crave (yet nobody wins)
Any way you decide
Your try but you die

The mindset
Of a killer
With your gaze
You paint the room
Blood red
With tears
Pouring from the stage

And you can’t stop now
Rung by rung
Almost out
Covered in black and gold
No one cares and no one knows
My gift to the world outside
It’s ok, I’m all right
Now open your empty hands
Cause here comes the fun here comes the end

Click erase the device
Give thanks(then clear out the room)
Blow kisses, wave them goodbye
Goodnight

Mindset
Of a killer
With your gaze
You paint the room
Blood red
With tears
Pour from the stage

And you can’t stop now
Rung by rung
Almost out
Covered in black and gold
No one cares no one knows
My gift to the world outside
It’s ok, I’m all right
Now open your empty hand
Cause here comes the fun
Here comes the end

The song definitely sounds like he's talking about the hardships of being worshipped like a prince onstage and how alone it makes him feel. I can relaqte to the feeling in a way, even though I'm not famous or loved like that

for some reason i think of die hard fans or road crew/people involved with tours

I think this about the downfall of any sort of fame. Anyone trying to be famous and great may try but they die never making it the way they may want to.

I have a lot of trouble discerning what’s going on in the song. But by the name, we can assume that the godly king and queen have fathered a son, a prince, who seems to reside on Earth. I believe in this song the protagonist is addressing his son, who despite his godly origins, epitomizes the problems of humanity.

“I relate to your kind, your design, your devotion to wave Get your brain on the prize, then dive inside The mindset of a killer with your mind out of phase”

The king says, ‘Son I appreciate your ambition, go for it.’ But his instructions are tinged with grave concern, as he realizes his son has a mindset that is potentially very dangerous to itself and to the Earth and beyond. As the first son of the Diamond Eyes, of the god and goddess, the Prince has potentially unlimited power.

The king explains his worldview to his son: “It’s a game that we like, we crave, yet nobody wins Any way you decide, you try, but you die”

He explains that earthly endeavors ultimately get you nowhere. The Prince realizes this is true and he is enraged and saddened at the Earth’s fate. “The mindset of a killer, with your gaze you paint the room blood red With tears pouring from the stage” The king acknowledges his son’s rage and sadness for the Earth.

“And you can’t stop now, rung by rung, almost out Covered in black and gold No one cares and no one knows”

The king beckons his son to leave the Earth and climb the ladder to the heavens where he can join his parents in safety. The earth is “covered in black and gold” which is to say it is awash in evil (“black”) primarily because of greed for riches (“gold”). None of the humans care nor are aware of their impending doom.

“My gift to the world outside, it’s ok, I’m alright Now open your empty hands ‘cause here comes the fun Here comes the end”

The king’s gift to the world is to leave them in ignorance of their impending doom. He plays it off as though the ending of his former domain doesn’t bother him, and even goes so far to say it will be fun watching the Earth destroy itself. While the humans may deserve their fate, we know that the ending of the Earth must truly disturb the king, since he came from the Earth (see "Royal") and it is the only place in which he can physically interact with his queen.

“Click erase the device Give thanks, then clear out the room”

The “device” reminds us of the sex tapes the king and queen made on Earth in “Butcher.” These sex tapes are described in the song "Sex Tape." Erasing the device and clearing the room refers to the end of the Earth.

“Blow kisses, wave them goodbye…Goodnight”

The sinister groove of this song reflects the Earthly evil within the Prince.

My Interpretation

mindblowing

you're delusional.

@TomIn703 You’re smoking crack with these interpretations. What the fuck did I just read?? Are you out of your mind??

To me, this is about the relationship and detachment of the famous and those that worship them and this guy gets it. The motivations and inspirations for whatever the famous person is doing is out of sync with what those who worship them may think. The famous person is able to affect those that worship them a certain, almost unintended way that doesn't necessarily match up with their own personal intentions. And the worst part is, the worshippers don't really even care about the inner workings of the individual they worship. They view the famous person a certain way and that's all that matters to them.

To me this song sounds like it's about a cult of personality sociopath. Like a politician or a leader who is revered and loved, but little do the people know he has sinister motives and is not the person he is presenting himself as.

Is this song Diamond Eyes' counterpart to White Pony's "Rx Queen"?? Bassline riff has reminiscent qualities too.

Sounds like it. Even the Title is Prince. Prince = RX queen

Definitely sounds like Rx Queen, but I don't understand how prince = rx queen... I understand the relation between the words prince and queen, both being associated with royalty, but I don't think you could just put an equal sign between them.

This song definitely has a different meaning than Rx Queen. Rx Queen is about being with someone that has a disease (Perhaps HIV? Rx is relating to prescription pills) and telling them that they can sting (infect) you and you won't mind.

I think themightyspoon and xfacefuckx pretty much got this song covered, that's exactly what I was thinking...

yeah it sounds alot like RX Queen but it doesn't relate. at least it doesn't sem that way.

I think its about chi relating to someone who comes from a place where they are always observed and the center of attention [from a stage; a prince], and from this, have developed this "thing" that they can control and manipulate every situation they are in without even trying, and make it the way they SEE fit [The mindset of a killer, With your gaze, You paint the room] [And you can't stop now, Room by room, one more town, Covered in black and gold they are aware of this "manipulation" but no one has the capacity to comprehend it [No one cares, no one knows]]; in a way you feel like your on top of people because of this trick [Click erase the device Give phase (Then you clear out the room) Blow kisses, wave them goodbye Good night], but feeling somewhat alone in the end because of it.

love the chorus.

Everything about this screams out that its about Chi. Even before you've figured out what he's saying, it starts with this RX-Queen-esque verse with the bass part. Also, the i to vi progression used predominantly in this song makes it harmonically immediately associated with the white pony album, which for some reason to me feels like Chi's 'golden days', and I wonder if this (along with the entire instrumentation of the song) is a direct hint. If that seems a bit vague, all you need to do is listen to the lyrics. I don't think they really need analysing.

Also, it seems that this isn't the only one on this album in that vein.

It's not about Chi. Chino said not to read too much into the lyrics on this album, because they're just about imagery and not focused on real-life scenarios.
