I think this song deals with wrong decisions/choices and subsequently the person wants to go back, wanting to undo those, rather than making amends and carrying on with an unhappy life. His present state is dark, that's why he asks for "Rewind, I wanna go it again, light up the dark, halo on the side". The "no compromise" part is reflected in the 2nd stanza ("Is it worth your while to spend on a lie, even though you cannot see eye to eye") and the 3rd ("If this is how we think we make amends/We're in for a race that never ends").
I think Sandy441988 is on track with some added thoughts. The chorus repeats the confusion we can get into when relationships are not working. Wanting to go it again wanting to light up the dark thinking we are not being holier than thou, with the halo on the side and not on our heads. However we are often so self deceptive and until we are to change ourselves we are doomed to have the cycle repeat.
