You're Going Back

Saw him in concert last year, he told us the song was about the death of one of his friends.

This song to me means sharing something special with someone and feeling an immense ache or yearning to give them more than everything, but they are pulling away. His voice, the lyrics and the guitar create a beautifull sadness and a very powerfull song. I like singing to this song.

Pretty sure it's "you DRIVE me to tears".

What I appreciate most about this album(and artist, obviously) is Matsson's frequent struggle with duality. There's so much more passion to lyrics when all sides are represented.

I think the first part is a friend explaining to his other friend how deep their ties of friendship go - he could "roll him to hell" and ruin him or "swim from your heavens" - be elated with him, and take care of each other "drive you so safe"/"walk you to here". Extremes that show how significant the relationship is.

Floating in tears and crying in laughters is similarly showing how close they are that they can laugh about anything for no special reason - "not for some sake" - even in humble surroundings without distractions "and the city's not near".

I think "going back" is literally leaving from the two of them being there together and sharing such close bonds of friendship - literally, physically departing, because it breaks what is so special between them.

The next verse is hoping that despite leaving, the friend remembers the experiences they've had together - "screams from the forest" being laughter, "ghosts in the trees" memories and the "love of a dog" the simple, true loyalty to each other they have had. "Let us float in the tears, let us cry from the laughters, when it's not for some sake and the city's not near" is hoping that despite not being there together, they still remember.

"You said, "Driver, please, don't go that fucking way" You said, "Just let it go away" You said, "Just let it go"" - it seems to me that they've fallen out which has caused the friend to leave, or that the singer is returning him back ("you're going back") but the friend doesn't want to go.

"But you dry me to tears like I cry from your laughters When it's not for some sake And the city's still dear" is the singer missing his friend and remembering what he asked his friend to remember.

This about a his friend I'm sure as well. Total platonic song. What it's about is about the two men deciding to live in a rural or remote area in the woods with a dog. The friend is sick of it and wants to go back to the city. The singer is the "driver" and will easily do as he says. "I can roll you to hell" I believe he means I can easily take you there. "hell" being the city the place the singer hates. It's also his friends "heaven". And the singer will have to "swim" from it. It's an image for struggle. It's more apparent he contrast with "I cry from your laughter" most simply "what makes you happy, makes me sad" " your heaven my, is my hell type shit. I'm not exactly sure where they are at the moment though. When he says "I could walk you to here" so probably in between the city and the home in the woods. Then his friend trips out as he is driving, screams! Driver don't go that fucking way. Yadayada ya and there's somethig there that the singer can't let go of. And he "your" going back, not "we" it's apparent the singer stays

Uh, where was this song last August It would have been nice to have had some comfort with this song back then.
