Outside (Staind cover) Lyrics

And you bring me to my knees again
all this time that I could beg you please in vain
all the times that I felt insecure for you
and I leave burdens at the door

(Chorus)
I'm on the outside.
I'm looking in.
I can see through you.
See your true colors.
'Cause inside you're ugly.
You're ugly like me.
I can see through you.
See to the real you.

All this time, that I felt like this
won't end. Was for you.

And I taste, what I could never have.
It's from you.

All those times, that I tried,
My intentions, full of pride
And I waste, more time than anyone

(Chorus)
I'm on the outside.
I'm looking in.
I can see through you.
See your true colors.
'Cause inside you're ugly.
You're ugly like me.
I can see through you.
See to the real you.

All the times, that I've cried
All that's wasted, it's all inside

And I feel, all this pain
Stuffed it down, it's back again

And I lie, here in bed
All alone, I can't mend

And I feel,
Tomorrow will be okay
But I know..

(Chorus)
I'm on the outside.
I'm looking in.
I can see through you.
See your true colors.
'Cause inside you're ugly.
You're ugly like me.
I can see through you.
See to the real you.

Cover art for Outside (Staind cover) lyrics by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, The

I recently had a extramarital relationship with a woman end. She was extremely beautiful, intelligent, articulate and troubled. Despite knowing that it couldn't last, her suddenly pulling the plug on it still hurt. Desperate to end the obsession and the longing, I had to look deep within myself and face some major childhood trauma that I've been running from all of my life. I found out that she had even more horrific events in her past. It's like we could somehow on an instinctual level sniff out that we were both silently carrying the same wounds. I can't love me, but I can love you. I can't fix me, but I can heal you. I don't have any self esteem, please let me give it to you. Inside, she was ugly like me. I totally relate to this song on SO many levels. Something tells me this isn't the first time the narrator felt this way. I don't think it's the relationship ending that caused his pain, it simply came back after it ended and he realized the relationship failed to fix him. This song is so full of soul wrenching despair. But the last line gives me comfort, "and I feel tomorrow will be okay" even though it's followed by the chorus. If I can get through today and what I'm feeling now, things will get better.
