This song is about how no matter how old we get, love will always have a childish aspect to it. Both people in the song are in love, yet neither has said anything to each other about it. They're talking with friends about their "secret crush" instead of actually getting together. The narrator's "hands are shaking" and throughout the song he considers the tragic possibility that maybe his love will never make their feelings known to him.
