Bootstraps Lyrics
I wanna be uplifting for a change,
To make you feel a little better,
Like when a nice boy takes you dinner
Not just first base beneath your sweater.
But if it happens enough
Maybe I’ll learn to trust
Having skin so tough
Like an elephant must,
But my expanding state
Tends to gravitate.
I’ll never fit the pants of a singer
I lack the lungs of a winner
I am failure’s dead ringer
I’ve got the marks of a sinner
You’ve got to pick yourself up by the bootstraps
Just ignore them when they laugh
Make it a point to now walk taller
Keep your chin up on the behalf
Of every beautiful rejection
With their own ugly reflection
To anyone who’s ever never felt the same
(Pick yourself up by the bootstraps)
Back to the couch
Where I’ll binge on Doritos,
Where I’ll grow so stagnant
That I breed mosquitoes
I will saturate
My expanding state
I’ll never fit the pants of a singer
I lack the lungs of a winner
I am failure’s dead ringer
I’ve got the marks of a sinner
Pick yourself up by the bootstraps
Just ignore them when they laugh
Make it a point to now walk taller
Keep your chin up on the behalf
Of every beautiful rejection
With their own ugly reflection
To anyone who’s ever never felt the same
(Pick yourself up by the bootstraps)
But still hey
Who are we to say we could ever be loved?
From God’s own junkyard
to heavens above
I’ll never fit the pants of a singer
I lack the lungs of a winner
I am failure’s dead ringer
I’ve got the marks of a sinner
Pick yourself up by the bootstraps
Just ignore them when they laugh
Make it a point to now walk taller

Why does this song get no love? One of the best on the album for sure... although I wish you would fix the apostrophes that turned to question marks.
only one comment? this is my favorite song of the album. i usually don't listen to bands like ymaewk, but i think they're one of the most genuine, uplifting bands out there. this song made me so unbearably happy the first time i heard it.
i wouldn't consider my life terrible, but i've been bullied and mistreated by people for as long as i can remember, and this song definitely stuck with me...i lived my life so long never loving or trusting anyone because all i knew was rejection, but eventually you make a decision to overcome that. i'm actually glad that's how i grew up, because i have fucking rhino skin and nothing phases me.
tl;dr this song is awesome and i relate to it way too much.
isn't it "I'll breath mosquitoes?"
nope, definitely " 'til I breed mosquitoes!" the joke being that mosquitoes can only lay eggs on stagnant bodies of water, meaning he'll stop moving until mosquitoes start laying eggs on him. boomdeyada.
