This song's message is so simple and beautiful and TRUE. I think it's about someone who's in love with his best friend and they're incredibly close, but in the end bring each other down and the singer doesn't think they can be together. He just worries about all the horrible things happening in the world, and so does his friend. He needs to find someone who can lift him up.

I think this song has something to do with a girl and a guy both getting over lost love. Maybe she has been getting over it longer than him? He's seeking comfort anywhere he might find it.. he knows that they aren't what each other need or want but they are there for each other so maybe it feels right. He knows that his broken heart is meaningless is a world filled with so much hurt and pain and if they can keep going on, he should be able to as well? It kind of throws me for a loop in the middle when it just starts talking about the war.
